Scandisk & Defrag Question For @home user

Hello everyone!

I've got a simple one here. I've only had @home cable for a few months and haven't run a Scandisk or Defrag since I got it.

I noticed that Win98SE keeps restarting on Scandisk when I try to run it. Is this because I'm always online with cable? Could it be my firewall (black ice)? In the past, I never tried to run either while still online with dialup and I didn't have a firewall.

TIA,

Sal

no its just the way the stupid POS works in w98, boot into safe mode and do it. In w98 if you change anything while doing a scandisk it starts over

Sorry, but how do you boot into safe mode? I've only gone into safe mode when the OS took me there. I've never been in there otherwise.

Thanks again,

Sal

I had forgotten about running Scandisk. When I went to disable my virus protection and run Scandisk a few minutes ago, it was still doing the same thing by restarting all the time. It restarts even if I don't touch anything. I guess I might have to run Scandisk in safe mode.

Never mind. I figured it out. I have to hit the control key on the reboot for the option of safe mode.

I ran Scandisk successfully in safe mode. I'm glad because my drive had errors that needed to be fixed.
