Is my Hard Drive dead"?
During a run of Scandisk My system returned the following;

File record segment ###### is unreadable.
This is the first I've encountered this error message.

I did an Install of WinXP pro on my back up harddrive, I can view files. Surely I'll have to reinstall the various apps to run or open these files.

TIA.
Neil

This was when you ran scandisk in windows? The means there is a bad sector on the hard drive. You can flag this sector so that windows does not write to it. This is generally indicative that the hard drive is on the way out, but it may still be useful for a while. I wouldn't put any important data on it.

No, I couldn't get scandisk to run under windows. It said it needed to have complete access, then scheduled itself for running at next startup.

Thanks, DaiShan
This all stems from my system locking up over "MUP.SYS" this morning. I went into Recovery Console and disabled Mup.SYS aas welll as VMODEM. <---- started hanging after I disabled Mup.
