Scammers are learning

She started, "This is your Certified Microsoft Support Center calling to inform you that you just downloaded some virus files. OK, I am here to point out where they are located on your computer. OK?"

Immediately realizing the high probability that this is a scammer I said, "Really, I don't have any Microsoft products in my home. I'm running Linux."

A pause for 4-5 seconds, "OK, we can begin by my showing you the locations where the viruses got installed ..."

I interrupted and said with a deliberate attempt to provoke an emotional response, "You're a f-ing idiot. You're nothing but a c__ks__king mo__erfu__er b!tch, aren't you?"

Another pause as I think I have shocked her and how she responds will probably tell me whether ot not she's a scammer. And here it comes, like reject Terminator seeking options for verbal response, "You're a b!tch." <hangs up>

After years of 'Windows Support' they are finally trying to present a better, more believable opening. But it's official, I'm a b!tch.

I never get those calls. I only ever get "Business Loan Company". I have as much fun as I can with them before they hang up.

I now only give the "I can't understand you" (repeat a few times) "Do you have a penis in your mouth?"

Other greats I came up with.

"I know I'm infected, if I open a browser it's going to play that porno stuff"

(proceeds to open a dirty video)

Place the phone near the speaker and yell at them. "See what you did? Are you going to fix this...etc"

You'd be surprised how long you can keep these guys on the line with stupid shit.

I'd rather spend that time fapping to that porn or playing video games, tbh.

lol I had a scammer ask if I had a GF. I said yes just to play along, and he asked if he can have her.

Straight to the point too, "can I have your girl friend, I'm lonely". I could hear kids in the background, I can't help but wonder if some of these people are practically forced to work these scam jobs just to feed their family, I ALMOST feel bad for them.

I managed to keep one on the phone for over an hour once. Once he finally managed to connect to my VM I dropped the network speed to dialup. He was getting pissed because of how slow it was. He eventually hung up after I killed the VM and accused him of doing something to my computer. At that point I set the cpu speed to like 30 Mhz but it was TOO slow, 20 minutes in and it was still at the windows splash screen. He eventually hung up lol. I recorded all of that too, I should really edit that and post it on Youtube some time. I would condense it in like 10 minutes and get the better parts.

I wish they would call me. I would lead them on, drag it all out and act like I know nothing about puters. Then at the end tell them thanks for staying on the phone long enough for me to track down their phone location and I'll hand it over to the FBI....they may be stupid enough to believe it but sometimes I wish I could trace phone calls like the police can...they once tracked down a cell phone in my house that was allegedly dialing 911 and hanging up, turned out that the dog was butt dialing from an old phone stuck in the cushions of the couch lol.
They can do that, but if someone scams you, they act like they can't do it?

The scammer calls are wierd, I don't get why the phone system allows it, but they can basically spoof the ANI info and everything else. So in some cases the call literally can't be traced.

I sometimes trace calls for police by looking through the logs and see weird stuff like the originating number being "1". This should not even be possible. I need to write a GUI in Visual Basic and might be able to enhance that. 😀

But generally I find police wont really do much for nuisance calls unless it's threats or something of that nature. I used to get this company from Toronto that kept trying to send me spam via fax at odd hours of the day like even 3am and stuff. Police here or in Toronto would not do anything about it. So I decided to hook up a fax machine to see what the fax was, the spam had the company's fax number on it, so I just faxed them a 1,000 page black PDF using a free fax service with white text telling them to stop sending spam. Never got another fax again. lol.

I always ask for nudes regardless of gender. The men usually hang up rather quickly but usually the women, posing as the IRS or some very professional organization, actually play along for a while. Rather entertaining for a few minutes but quickly becomes dull.

So that's basically Phreaking isn't it...phone hacking? I learned that term on that 80's Hackers movie with angelina joli 🙂.
Good idea on the fax, that's hilarious.😀

Yeah I imagine it's probably a form of freaking. There must be some special signal they can send to the switch before they make a call to basically overwrite the caller ID info or something. Probably some kind of trickery with the CCS7 signalling or something that they can somehow alter. I'm not too familiar with that aspect of how it all works though.

I did some audio "phreaking" once when dealing with an IVR that did not give you enough time to enter a super long alpha numeric code. I think it was for applying for my driver's license. You had like 1/2 a second per digit or it would time out and you had to restart. Trying to enter it fast enough while reading them from the card it kept timing out on me, so I got fed up. I generated an audio file with the proper tones ahead of time, so when I got to that prompt I just put the receiver near the speakers and played the tone. It actually worked. 😀

I got a phone call that sounded legitimate. He said that something was wrong with my PC and I had a virus and proceeded to give me the information from the owner of the PC. However, it wasn't me.

I've gotten a few of, "this is detective such and such and you owe back taxes" or some shit.

I use PhoneTray and Nomorobo so most shit is blocked and if I don't recognize the number I never answer. It's just voice mail spam at that point.

Now imagine being in your 60's or 70's and getting that call.
"Click on My Computer."

-"Right click or left click?"

"Left click."

-"Nothing happened."

"Please try again. Maybe you need to double-click on it if it's the icon on your desktop."

-"Is double-click with the left and right buttons together?"

"Just the left button. Click it twice quickly."

-"Something came up, but I think I accidentally had the pointer over the icon below My Computer. Internet Explorer is starting now."

<Ten minutes later, Windows Explorer is finally open.>

.......actually, I think I won't continue this. It's too painfully familiar.
You'd hope that right-click and left-click would not need to be clarified several times in one conversation.

calls from unknown numbers do not get answered

"Hello, this is a collect call from prison from [YOUR MOM] do you accept the charges?"

"Yes"

"Hello sir, I'm with Microsoft and we've detected a virus on your computer."

"Who are you? Where's my mom, why's she in prison?"

"Sir, it's a long story. She's fine, but you do have a problem. There's a new type of cryptovirus, do you remember downloading something called Fisted Beyond Recognition 5?"

I had the "Windows Support" guys call me a while back. Conversation went something like this:

WS (indian accent): Hi this is MS support, calling about some malware we detected on your computer.

Me: Oh really? That's concerning.

WS: Yes, very concerning. We can help you fix it.

Me: Ok

WS: Are you at your computer?

Me: Yes (but, I'm not - idiots!)

WS: Click on the start button

Me: Click? Does it matter with which finger I click with?

WS: No, any finger will do.

Me: Ok, I am clicking with my middle finger. What do I do next?

WS: Ok sir, in the run box type "eventvwr.exe"

Me: ok, I'm typing . . . OH! Wait! Something is happening!

WS: Yes, sir, that is the malware.

Me: No No! My computer is telling me something!

WS: Sir, what is it saying?

Me: Its saying you douchebags shouldn't try and scam someone who knows a thing or two about computers

WS: <laughter>

Me: Can I have a free ipad now?

WS: <Click>

You guys really should post recordings if you have any.

I'm kind of jelly, I never get scam calls. Most I get is recorded advertisements 🙁

Found out a little while back that they had one of my grandmothers going for it....unfortunately for them her computer has no internet service as the dial-up cord had been removed since she went to just using a tablet.
