Give up and count it as a cheap life lesson. You have no receipt, no name, no address, I'm guessing you paid in cash so no record of payment, you have nothing. You're fucked. Accept it.

edit: except notify craigslist

Why don't you get a friend to call on one of his other items. Meet with him. Go from there?

All the replies suck

What you need to do is post a bunch of fake craigslist ADS with his number. His number will be flooded and he'll be annoyed to death. More fun if you try this under personals :p

For CL transactions, this is usually impossible. I sell most of my stuff on CL and would *NEVER* meet someone at my house or theirs. I always insist on meeting somewhere very public.

That said, buyers on CL are at a serious disadvantage. I don't buy used crap from CL (or eBay, for that matter), but if I was to entertain a CL transaction as a buyer, at the very least, record the license plate number. That way you at least have *something* in your hands should you need to take... "measures".

Actually, this reply sucks. All you're doing is motivating him to change his number, at which point the OP has ZERO chance of being able to contact him again.

Fail.

Fighting? That's immature and you'll go to jail. Your life ruined over 300 bucks

Fail.

If it's his main line then he'll be extremely hesitant to do so. But if he's a 'pro' scammer than it's just a prepaid phone and he couldn't care less.

I'm going to go out on a limb and disagree that fighting is "immature" in this case. It's a natural response to severe injustice. I'm not saying it's the answer anytime you're wronged, but this guy deserves an asswhooping, plain and simple. I'm not saying I advocate it or would resort to those measures if I were in the same situation, but calling it an "immature" response is... inaccurate, in my opinion.

Yes, we live in a civilized society... but there's nothing civilized about ripping someone off like that, and uncivilized actions lead to uncivilized consequences. A weak "eye for an eye" argument, perhaps... but I don't care :) .

It's not his main line: it's a cell phone. Even if it's a prepaid phone, he's going to get as much use out of it as he can. It's inevitable that he will discard it, but I don't see how it is advantageous to motivate him to do it sooner rather than later. As long as he continues using it on CL, the OP has a shot at being able to contact him.

Why not just call him from a different phone number and arrange another meeting for a different item?

How big is the guy? Bring a couple friends and get your money.

Keep the Xbox.

Where do you draw the line between that and beating your girlfriend for eating too much of your ice cream cone?
