Looked just like this. To me it's just a silly visual trick to make it look like there is more meat on the plate than there really is (spread out slices). Lol.Or they have precut stuff in the back. cooks faster?

Pointless since you still have to cut. And i eat slowly so it gets colder faster.

If each of those slices is 2 oz., that's about 16-18 oz. Plus the bone would make it around 22-24 oz, so that's about right on the money.

Steak for 2 is usually served cut into pieces. Yes, big pieces that you will still need to slice up on your own, but at least it's easier to get the pieces on to your own plate.

They showed us the steak (ribeye for two), and offered to cut into slices for us in the kitchen. Are they showing us a ringer steak and then giving us something different? Or is this the new trend where people are getting lazy to cut their own meat?

Having a steak for 2 cut is pretty standard in fine dining. Especially when dealing with either a porterhouse or a ribeye cut. The reason is the meat is different on different parts of those steaks and the chef will portion it out for you so each person gets some of the different parts of the steak.
