SBLive + Win98SE issues

Recently I changed to position of my SB Live card from 1 PCI slot to another. I booted up Windows 98SE and loaded the drivers. I restarted as usual, and then bam, no sound. I go to control Panel, find out the devices are disabled, enable em, restart, and now it says the drivers need to be reinstalled. I reinstalled the drivers, and what I just described happens again (disable, reable, reinstall). Ne suggestions on how to fix this problem? Any would be appreciated.

what you have my friend is an IRQ conflict.
Try this:
Boot into safemode by holding the F8 key before windows starts to boot.
then go into yout control panel and delete your soundblaster and everything that goes with it (DOS emu, midi, gameport, ect..)
reboot. it should detect your sound card.

Also look for double hardware in the control panel while in safe mode, like 2 video cards or multiple listings of your hd. If you find any delete them both. Windows will detect thema t reboot!

Tried all of that, still no go. Same thing as I first described keeps on happening. Any other suggestions? Oh yeah, and when I try to reinstall the drivers, it gives me an error code ( i think error code 69)

do you have an agp video card? the pci slot directly under the agp slot and the agp slot share resources. I've had problems with network cards installed in that slot. Might want to try switching to another slot if that is an option.

raftman is correct (very nice). I always skip PCI slot 1 if possible. If you don't use your com ports, disable them in BIOS for a few more free IRQ's. Definately try to rearrange your PCI cards. I usually use PCI2 for NIC and PCI3 for sound. Don't ever skip slots.

Yep, you're going to have to play the arrange game.

I had several problems with my NIC and SB Live! I had to keep moving the NIC in several slots before everything worked.

You should also make sure you have the latest VIA patches if that's what you're using.
