hey,

I really need some help with my SBlive Player card. I have installed it into
a brand new system, and it keeps causing my computer to hang. It mostly
happens in games (such as Unreal Tournament, Freespace 2, Half-Life) but
also occasionally in Windows. It works fine for a while, and then locks-up
the entire computer causing me to have to reset. The driver versions are 4.11.01.0711 and liveware 3.0. If anyone can please help me, or offer any sort of advice i would greatly appreciate it.

My system: Athlon 900 TBird Socket A, Asus a7v mb, asus v7700 video card,
256 mb apacer 133mhz sdram, ibm 30 gb hdd, sblive player.

My v7700 is running drivers 5.16 and I have updated the VIA MB drivers, the
a7v bios and got the above sblive drivers. Its also running under win98 1st
ed. - would second ed. make a difference?

Thanks heaps,

Stafford

Check your IRQs . . . SB Live hogs two of them because they insist on default installing the SB16 emulator dinosaur for obsolete DOS games. You can disable that and delete the SB drivers along with your autoexec.bat file (not need at all for Windows).

If you have to have DOS games, then you will have to check out all your IRQs. You might try the SB live in a different PCI slot . . . that also lashes it up with other devices for sharing, and sound cards do not like to share.

Put the Live! in PCI2. It seems to work best this way. Something with PCI IRQ channel sharing. Lots of people (including me) have had this problem, moving the card to PCI2 seems to work.

I have mine in PCI #2 and everything works OK, and I have 6 PCI cards in my PC :)

One thing that may be worth doing, if you can, would be to disable LPT1, COM 1 and COM 2 in the BIOS to free up some IRQ's if you do not have enough
