it supposedly just started today. I don't know how I'd check this since I've been on a month-to-month basis with SBC since my contract expired last year. Thanks again guys. $50/month to $30/month plus more bandwidth. :)

I've had the service for a couple of weeks not and it beats the hell out of our local cable provider. Speed is about the same but the reliability is superb. Good stuff, highly recommended. It was a pain to set up with our router because I had to install their shitbox software to get a username and password first, but after that it was smooth sailing.

You can get a username and password without installing the provided crap software.

If you are using Windows XP, use the built in PPPoE client and enter sbcyahooreg@sbcglobal.net under account name. and in the password field, enter sbcyahooreg.

In Internet Explorer, type this URL in the address field https://sbcreg.sbcglobal.net. Change your username/pass in your settings after you get one.

Or if you are at work or somewhere else with internet access, you can just go to https://sbcreg.sbcglobal.net and sign up for a username/pass there under box 2.....

is there a list of dsl modems that are compatible with sbc dsl?

i still have an alcatel speedtouch home dsl modem along with the phone line filters that i got a few years back when i had pacbell dsl.

oh, any idea how long this promotion is gonna last? from there "The wait is over. Affordable broadband is here" slogan, it sounds like it's indefinite.

just so yall know .. I did this offer (before I found out about it here) ... I live in San Antonio and the speeds are good ...

Where I live (78250) ... I am not getting as fast I was with RoadRunner, however, my friend in 78258 is getting faster than I was with RoadRunner .... so depending on where you live, it is a good speed

I just tried to get $30 price and it's NO go. I signed up May 29th and activated on June 3rd and
billing starts on June 3rd. Per Retention Group Rep, the contract starts at June 3rd when I agree
to terms and conditions and cannot cancel without early termination penalty. So I'm stuck with
$35 rate plan for a year. If anyone get the pricing changed, let me know how to get it done.

did anybody order their "wireless package" for $50 extra? my GF did, and receive the package today. but there was no wireless ethernet card for her desktop, just a pci ethernet card. unless i've mistaken and that card is a wireless card. but it looked just like a normal, wired card to me, with a jack for the ethernet plug. did they send her the wrong package? the lable on the box says "HomePortal 1000SW", the modem is a "2Wire" brand that i've never heard of.

by the way, the package included the '2WIRE' HomePortal modem, 5 line filters, and a PCI ethernet card along with some documentation. and the docs make no special description of what a PCI wireless card should look like.

can somebody confirm or deny that she receive the wireless package?
thanks much for your help

What can we do?

You cant do anything. When it says you have 30 days to agree to the terms it means you have 30 days to setup your account. That means that you have 30 days to make an account name and password at which time you are required to AGREE TO THE TERMS. you can't activate without agreeing to the terms, so once you have activated you have agreed. 30 days to agree to terms does not mean that you have a 30 day grace period, it means you have 30 days to get it all going.

There is no 30 grace period. This has been confirmed many times.

Update: After one day of service, they appear to have uncapped my download speed. I'm now consistently getting 1200/248.

That's what I got in my kit, which arrived last night. My service wasn't supposed to be up until today, but I plugged the modem in, got synch, ands was able to register without a problem. I used the PPoE server bulit into my D-Link router, and did not have to install any of the included software. All the machines on my network (Windows 98, XP Pro, and RH 9.0) are connected without any problems.

I bought the 768-1.5/256 package, for $40/month, and am currently getting 680/248 speeds. The download speed is supposed to improve over the first couple of weeks as they step your speed up, so I'm quite happy.

I just got my SBC Yahoo! DLS ($29/mo. for the 1st yr.) last Thursday, I just switched from Cable (Road Runner @ $45/mo. !!! ). It seems similar to Cable speeds for UL/DL, Web pages seem to fill in a little faster on my DSL.

During the setup, it helps to be a bit of a techie (I've been working with computers professionaly since 1985). The free/self installation may be a bit tricky for a few people (they should know who they are), but I think just about anybody can follow the installation instructions to get it to work.

My DSL connection is more delicate than my Cable connection was. After I signed up w/ SBC's software I removed all of the SBC software and hooked it up to my SMC Baracade 7004ABR Router, it logs in for me and keeps the connection alive. My PCs just use the Network (no special software) to get to the Internet.

The DSL TCP/IP address has changed at least once a day (what a pain, I connect to my PC from work frequently).

I'm able to either use the Web to get my e-mail or my Eudora client, but I still have not gotten Eudora to SEND and e-mail through SBC (again, what a pain), I'll tinker w/ it tonight again.

Downloading from the News server seems to be a little bit slower, but I had a P2P client downloading 5 huge files at a total of about 200 Kbps at the same time I was testing the News server (so it may actually be faster).

All in all, I'm saving $15/mo. for service similar to my Road Runner Cable service.

I hope this helps anybody who is thinking of switching.

How long does it take from the time you order it...to activation? Also do you really have to install the SBC software at all? is that the only way to register? I know you don't need that PPPoE stuff if you have a router (i've got a linksys BEFSR41). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've tried disconnecting it from the router, and connecting itdirectly to the PC,. but no change

Connection works, but the light blinks sporadically
