SBC yahoo-do you have to install their software?

About to reformat and I'm wondering if I need their software after im done or whether it's plug and play. This is for DSL.
 
If your pc is hooked up to a router, then you don't have to install. Just enter your name and password into your router. If your modem is hooked directly to your pc then you'll have to install the software.
 
Can anyone confirm that? I have my linksys up for sale right now but if thats true i'll yank it and start using it.
 
If you are on XP, you do not need their software. SBCa activated my account even before I received the modem+software from them. I used an modem and got connected.

I'm using it w/o the software via a Linksys BEFSR41 router which has PPPoE software in it. If you want ot hook it up straight to your comp, you can use XP's PPPoE software or RasPPPoE or even in the yahoo CD if you cancel...as long as you have enternet 300 installed it'llb e fine. Enternet 300 = PPPoE software. Get rid of all the $hit Yahoo installs. Pain in the a$$ but DO IT! 🙂

yeah, that's part of the reason I'm reformatting. Its been about 18 months.
 
if you have all your account info yes. otherwise you gotta use it to sign up and set everything up😛 after that you can stop using it.

i just ghost imaged my o/s before i installed it. then i got the info, entered it into my router and restored my clean windows from image.
 
I think you need their software to administer your account ( add mailboxes, etc).

Not sure though...

no you don't. Go to sbc.yahoo.com and you can manage from there.
