Hi guys,
I would like to know how are their binaries servers in term of completions and retention time?
I am signing up for it but would like to know.
I heard so many horror stories regarding their customer service and cancellation problems. Any ideas or inputs will be very appreciated.
Thanks.

I don't know about new servers, but I dislike their DSL in general. It's like $40 a month for 300/100 speeds (i.e. crap) when cable is only $10 more for a 1.5/256 connection. It's also a pain to sign in with their crappy software (read: bloated) and crap you can't get around.

I would NOT buy SBC Yahoo DSL and am convincing my parents to move back to cable as soon as their contract is up. We had hoped to save by getting rid some phone expenses by using them, but have seen no returns. It makes much more sense to go with cable. Luckily I get Resent for 8 months out of the year and don't have to deal with this crap.

They have crappy newsservers.

Their DSL has been good to me though. Yes, I've heard the initial installation is bloated, but you aren't forced to use it after you create your username/password. Also, I don't know what the deals are in other parts of the country, but I'm getting 1.5/384 (recently upped the upstream last month) for under $30 a month. (I'm in California BTW)

They called me today and offered their $26.95 a month for a year deal. Chick claimed I would get 1.5Mbit download because of my location but it was rated at 384down/128up. $50 a month after the first year. It's nice to finally have DSL as a broadband option because before my only option was cable.

I'm gonna stick with my cable for a while longer as they are supposed to double the speed to 3Mbit down some day although I get 1.75down right now with it being rated at 1.5.

Their news servers suck! Horrible retention, missed posts, capped speeds. There are much better news services out there so you can download your porn.

Not interested in the porn. Some music and tech support info. Not much time to look for any material on there.

Man, what's up with these horrible stories.
Maybe I should start calling them to cancel months in advance to get it cancel on time.

I won't get it until next week. The problem is a year from now. To cancel it is a problem.

They have almost no multipart binaries. Cost-cutting crap. So you can forget about music. Honestly, I would not even trust them for text. As you can tell, SBC has absolute worse news in the dsl industry. If Verizon is a 10, then Earthlink is about a 8 or 9 as is DSL Extreme. SBC is a 1. Hang around the shills in their support newsgroups long enough and hear them blame everything under the Sun but themselves. On the other hand, SBC's raised uploads to 256, so you might get 1200/200kbps. The service is cheap and reasonable reliable. Just don't expect to EVER download a completed binary or even follow a completed text discussion.

It's true, SBC news servers SUCK hardcore. They're useless.

On the other hand, the service really isn't that bad. $30 a month for 1.3 down and like... 27 KBps up. I'm sorry, I don't know what the conversion is in bits. I don't think that's too bad. The upstream used to be like half that, and the downstream was around 1.1 Mbps, but one day they randomly upped it... I'm not complaining.

I kinda had the feeling that would be the case about the news server. Well, as long as their service is not too bad on the broadband portion, I am fine. I don't download that much anyway. I got this forums for tech support.
