SBC DSL Subscribers

they always offer you a renewal at the same price when your contract is about to expire.

they did that to me 2 times, in my 3 year stint with them.

Avoid the 2wire like a plague. It's terrible. Horrendous. I would rather pour battery acid on one than have to hook one up.

I got a 2wire at my parents house for their DSL... it was a nightmare to get working right... would appear to be working, would randomly drop connection, speed was shitty.... same thing happened to a friend... a coworker got SBC DSL without the 2wire and it's been flawless.

I signed up through Best Buy and got a $100 GC a couple months ago (now it's supposedly 3 months free after rebate and 4 movie tickets). Anyway, it was a Speedstream 5100 modem.

Strange, mine has been fine, only took about 20 mins to setup. Mine was the dsl modem/router combo thing though.

speed stream 5100b. The "b" is the one with 5 lights. the "a" has 4. The 5100b is what they are giving out now. I dont think the "a" is made any more. Been a pretty good modem. The PPPoE is on the modem.

Got the 5100b about 2 months ago when I signed up. Running pppoe on my router instead of the modem now, works fine.

I was able to get a full refunds thought of 149.95 plus 14.95 shipping and handling 🙂 that's the only good thing aoub tit lol.

it takes at least 5 min to sync up and 10-15 min if it has a hard time synching :|
the speedstream 5100 only takes 30sec, wow! what a difference! and its as dumb as a brick 😀
so this mean that if you have to change IP or reset to improve connected, your fvcked, royally..\<>/p[]

question: how much is sbc dsl after the promotion price (currently $27/mo)?

I had my DSL for a little over a year, and I am currently paying 50 bucks for DSL. SBC is starting to tick me off though, because I am tired of their connection getting very slow for a whole day, then finally it gets up to speed the next. Happens all the time. I am getting ready to choose a different ISP. It's very irritating

You can re-sign for another year at $27 also those slowdowns mean you need to reboot the modem. Your IP will change but the speed will return.

i got some sort of speedstream, i can't remember what kind. it has PPPoE on the modem so you set up your router as though it were a cable modem: just plug it in and it works. Seems pretty solid. it's better than the old speedstream I have from a previous SBC account, which used to need to be rebooted every now and then and ran very hot.

cough, the 50.00 for month to month is nothing more then a scam to get you back on 1 year commitment
this was before they had a monopoly on dsl, now since they practically own everyone of us seeing there's little to no competition, I dont see what's the point in charging more after a year and making people commit to another year of the only dsl service just to keep their price low.
even I do not have consistent 3.0/512 24hrs a day, it varies from day to day and sometime just goes dead for half an hour.
