SBC billing Rant

Bah! I have been using SBC (formerly Ameritec) DSL for about a year and no complaints until they sent me my latest bill. Charge went to $50/month, up from $30/month.

So I call them and they inform me that I am now month to month b/c my 'contract' expired. So I ask them why they didn't just tell me ahead of time and ask if I wanted to renew my deal. They said they probably sent me an email. Well I don't use that email, I replied. The rep said they didn't have any other way to contact me. I then pointed out that they send me a bill every month and that they could send me a something on paper.

Anyways, in the end, I renewed the contract, and they refunded the difference between the month/month rate and my new rate. 20 minutes that I could of been neffing, was wasted!

If you dont read the email address they have on record that comes with the service, then its your own fault.

SBC rocks!! I've had them for a couple years and have zero complaints.

bs man. they never told me that they would be sending me financial information via email, rather than snail mail. Furthermore, they never received confirmation that I wanted to continue service with them. they just start billing me a new rate. Thats BS!

I like I said, This is a rant on their billing practices NOT their service.

No other way of contacting you? That's BS on their part. As a stipulation of ordering DSL you're required to have a landline phone provided by SBC. Same situation here, except in the former Southwestern Bell area...

In my area SBC DSL service has been great, but I live 500 feet from the switching station. I still feel like I'm getting shafted on the price though. (did the $29.95 first 6 months, $49.95 next 6 months thing last year)

they will probably change that for you. tell them you want a new contract @ 29.99 / month for 12 months.

That's the best laugh I've had today. I swore off SBC a couple years ago, and life was great. Now, I'm the contacto person for all of our business T1 and phone lines. Life with SBC sucks.

If you read the contract...i'm pretty sure it said it would do exactly that....from what I remember mine did.

As for SBCs quality of service some were talking about, I've had zero problems...it's gone out twice in 7 months, and both times were like 2 or 3 in a morning when I should of been sleeping anyway heh.

oops, you are right.. I did have an outage one time where i was down for 3 days that was their fault, but thats basically the only time I have been down in 2 years. I have had 4 temporary service interruptions that lasted an hour or so, but nothing major.

Now, contrast that with the local cable service which was faster, but was down several times a month...

SBC has been great with their DSL and I am contemplating going to their 6mb plan.
