I have recently put together amd P2 920, gigabyte 790x-ud4p and WD 640gb black system, and installed fresh vista 32bit on it. but by testing with HD Tune, I'm shocked to find my hd only has 62mb burst rate, and a pathetic 16.5% CPU usage, in comparsion my 5 years old ide 80gb hd has 68mb burst rate, and 5.1% CPU usage.
only the transfer rates seem less slower normal ranges, but something is still not right here, so what is the problem? is it because I enabled AHCI in bios? or the default windows ahci driver stinks, but i cant seem to find newer drivers on amd or gigabyte website

Are you using the latest F3 BIOS?

Could be this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960735

Or it could be AHCI mucking with the benchmark results, which is known to occur. HD Tune's burst rate test is funky, anyway. Try HD Tach.

Make sure you're using the AMD SB750 SATA ports (yellow) and not the Gigabyte RAID SATA ports (purple).
