I have a Shuttle XPC (SB65G2) with audio problems. When I use the front headphone jack, there is quite a bit of static. You can tell when the hard drive is being accessed because of the different sounds that come through the headphones. This same problem presents itself on the rear sound out port although it is not quite as severe. The actual volume level of sound on the machine is rather loud (it comes through quite clearly except for the static). I have a 120GB SATA hard drive. I disconnected the audio cable to the DVD drive and rerouted the wires going to the front panel but still no luck. Any ideas?

Yes. Go to the sfftech.com forums (Shuttle XPC and Legacy Barebones section) and search for something along the lines of sound problems and isolation. There are problems with interference and there is a thread there that has to do with isolating the ports correctly to get rid of it...

The noises you are hearing are common accrosss the entire Shuttle XPC range - infact most SFF 'cubes' suffer from this phenomenon, some more than others. It's basically caused by noise pickup in the cables that run from the mobo header to the audio jacks on the front.
I have seen mods that claim to help, but not tried them myself.
My SS51G suffers from this problem, but is only noticeable when using headphones. If I'm playing a game via headphones, it's not too intrusive.
Many people fit a PCI soundcard to get around this problem - this also gives you faster frame rates in most games...

Hope this helps
