Hello all - I have been using my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers for about 2 years now, and I decided to try a dedicated sound card with my new build. I bought the SB X-fi Titanium HD, which just arrived yesterday. It doesn't have the typical lime green jack for speaker output, rather it has regular RCA connectors for right/left speakers.

The Promedia satellite speakers connect to the back of the sub via exposed copper leads. There's a preamp on the bottom of the right satellite speaker which connects to the back of the sub via a cable terminating in a DIN plug. The preamp on the right speaker also has a cable with a 3.5mm jack plug to connect to a normal PC audio card. The preamp also has a headphone jack and an mp3/AUX jack. Here's the manual.

I have read a couple of reviews of the Titanium in which it is used with the Promedia speakers, but I'm not sure how they are connected. Anyone here have this setup?

Also, will the Titanium automatically disable the onboard soundcard, or do I have to do it manually?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Just ordered a Monoprice 3.5" female jack to 2 x RCA plug adapter. Hopefully this will work.

Pretty sure the Titanium HD has a 3.5mm audio plug, Creative just doesn't bother to color-code the connectors and gold-plates everything. It's labelled as a headphone input but don't kid yourself, they're serving the exact same purpose.

Onboard audio you will have to disable yourself via BIOS.

You only need one adapter -- 3.5mm stereo female to Y-out RCA left and right male. Should be able to find one at eBay or Monoprice.com.

The right and left RCA outs on the card are color-coded... look closely, and you'll see it.

Yeah, I found comments on this at another site after posting here. Apparently, the RCA jacks have better output (according to the x-fi titanium spec sheet) than the headphone jack. So I think it's a better idea to use the 3.5" to 2 x RCA adapter so I can use the RCA jacks for better performance.

Onboard audio you will have to disable yourself via BIOS.
So I'd go to the UEFI Southbridge section, I take it, and disable the HD and front panel audio there.

I found that adapter shortly after submitting my post and ordered two of 'em - the second will be used to run my ipod on my home stereo or as a backup in case the other one craps out). This soundcard setup with the Promedia isn't exactly intuitive. Hopefully this card will be worth the dough I spent on it. Got it off Amazon for $134+free shipping.

That's a pretty good deal you got. I've been quite happy with it -- not a single issue with either drivers or hardware. Just works beautifully.

I was just slightly hesitant after looking at some forums where people were moaning about the horrible software Creative/SB produces. People really complain a LOT about it, but I figured I'd just send it back for a refund if it's that bad. The positive comments were really glowing, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
