My main complaint with that specific microcenter is how it is in a slummish area. I hate driving in Minneapolis. Saint Paul is much, much better. :D

But... you could just stop right over at the Burlington Coat Factory after walking out of MC? Is that not convenience???

:p

What I think is crazy is just how busy that place is. Talking to the employees there, after Circuit City closed and CompUSA died they are the only game in town for a reasonable selection of tech at a reasonable price. I've been hoping for a while that a Fry's would pop up next to Ikea at MOA (not because I like driving down there, but because it seemed to make sense) but not now that MC has become the old Fry's of combo deals :)

CompUSA was our last computer store in the Pittsburgh area. When Tigerdirect opened them back up they didn't open ours back up. It gets very difficult finding computer parts around here when all you have is a Bestbuy and a Radioshack. At least I can get Ceramique when I need it I guess.

I miss the days when Intel did quarterly price cuts.

I know exactly what you mean.

You know what we could have a year ago? A 2600K for ~$315. And a year later? ~315$

MC or not you guys in the USA have very cheap computer hardware, in my country everything is at least 30%-40% more expensive and on top of that on average we earn 3X less. So imagine that you would have to pay 1800$ for 7970. Pretty crazy, huh?

Do you guys have hipsters? Because if you don't, that's the great equalizer. We have hipsters, so it's worse here.

7970 is around $820 here.. but we "only" have 6% unemployment so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Anyway I think Ivy Brdige is mostly about cutting costs (=cheaper CPUs) since the chips will be smaller and cheaper to manufacture. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up being cheaper than equivalent Sandy Bridge CPUs right from the start. That's what I'm hoping since I'm planning on buying one :)

Trust me, we have people of much worse ilk than hipsters. What do you have against hipsters anyway?

The only thing I would complain about your country is the weather and maybe crazy alcohol prices and traffic rules. Maybe not so much the rules but what they do to you if you break them. I very often drive at 2-3 times the speed limit.

I wouldn't expect to see a price drop on the Intel® Core™ i5-2500K any time soon. The demand for them is to high for our supply right now as is. Heck Newegg is running out of stock a couple times a month right now with them. This is just based on what I have seen in the past and what the market is like right now. I have no knowledge of future pricing what so ever.

It's at a great price now as it is, as is the 2600K. You guys did a great job and I'm finding myself recommending both of them left and right.

I am not sure why Newegg keeps running out of stock when they are selling it at $229 right now.

Has it outsold the Q6600?

Considering nearly everyone had one including myself, today well the only real choice is the 2500k as a must have for gaming with no competition even the 2600k doesn't make sense for any gamer,Thoughts?

The 2500k overclocks so well the days of the extreme processors are basically gone for gamer's,leaving them for hardcore users unlike the many gamer's who purchased qx9650s cause of their unlocked multipliers so basically we get $1,000 luxuries for a quarter of the price today.

Point is for a dedicated gaming box the 2500k is the real obvious choice so i think the 2500k will go down in history as possibly the best selling cpu of all time please feel free to quote me on this.:)

Sorry I dont have any information on how it stacks up against the Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q6600 from the past, but I can say with that the Intel Core i5-2500K is our #1 selling processor in the enthusiast space. My guess is that the Intel Core i5-2500K would out sell it by a good margin since when the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 there wasnt as much support for quad cores as there is now.

just buy a used 2500k for half price in April-May. that's the only place you'll get a nice price.

You might get lucky on Craigslist and find a 2500k for $100 or $120, but on a forum like this I would guess that it will be pretty rare. People would buy them at $150 shipped because even at that price it would outperform any IVB chip at the same price point.

You'd have to be out of your damn mind to sell an i5-2500k for $100. If it drops below $150, that's a good deal, and 100% they bought it from MC.

Right now, Micro Center is selling the 2500k for 179.99, without any bundle.

If I dropped my 2500k on the FS/FT forum for $180 at its current state, someone would buy it within 5 minutes I would bet. Well, they would be smart because it does 4.4 on 1.18v and I paid $207 online for it. :p

When I received the CPU, it had the Microcenter $249 price sticker on it

I felt like crap when I seen the Microcenter tag on it. I started thinking "wow, the business that sold me this CPU just probably made $40 from me because they just bought it from Microcenter. (Amazon purchase)" This was around the time when MC was selling it for $150 too. When I tested out the CPU's overclocking capabilities I thought I had a dud sensor in the CPU. Then 'Shoda' posted similar results on this forum and confirmed that him and I have the same CPU batch. I guess it was a good deal afterall :)

It'll never go down in price. Have you seen the pricing for used S775 gear and S478 before? There is always demand for older stuff from people with 1-2 generation old hardware looking to upgrade/replace cheaper than building everything new.

Yep. I am hoping that allows me to get a good price on my Q6700 at some point.

Ha, no way!

They sell for about $180 used right now and I expect they would drop some, to maybe around $150~160 during that time frame.

I agree, but I think getting lucky finding one of the not quite all there people is the only way it would happen.

Besides, you can get lucky once in awhile. Some people toss up great items for super cheap. I got a Rock Band set off Kijiji for $20 with the guitar, drums and game to replace my broken drums. I did feel a little bad about it, when I got there the conversation kind of led me to believe the dad might have been selling it to punish the kids, but I was already on the doorstep with cash in hand by that point. You never know what you'll find used.
