OK, so my 2600k and Asrrock extreme 4 motherboard are ordered. When it comes in, I want to see what I can get out of it. Everyone post your specs and OC's/ I will update here when mine comes in.

I also have a megahalem cooler on the way 5 ghz is my target.

2600K Ordered - UPS Next Day Air 🙂
Motherboard - Undecided and leaning toward the UD7 but i want the damn Maximus

I ordered an i5-2500k with an MSI P67-GD65 MB, should get here in 2 days.

I'm going for something like 4.2-4.5GHz, with an emphasis on longterm stability. If I can get something similar to what Anand did (4.43GHz at 1.27v), that would be perfect.

aHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i blame brian at ASUS for being so awesome @ CES.

Total Props to him!

He's convinced me to get SB.

ASUS&

^ thats why.. Motherboard review will be posted today.

I got no cpu tho... lol.. now i need to tell my sponsor ACK i need a 1155!

That's 'cause you're a cheap date... cough up an eval unit and you're theirs forever... 😀

Jealous. I'm a 2600K owner in search of that board

lol... the board was free and provided by asus.
However the board was given to me at a CES party.

Asus did not ask for a review, i am doing it out of a thank you to brian for sponsoring the board at the awesome party.

would be faster for me to have my sponsor fedex me one then me go out to microcenter and hunt one down. 😀

Ok, I will post my results so far.

i7 2600 @ 4.0Ghz @ 1.165v. No issues thus far and Prime95/LinX stable @ 55C full load. I will let me Artic Silver set and then set it to 4.2Ghz. I just do not want to go above 60C.

And the non K 2600 can OC to 4.2GHz on all cores. Saved $40 from the K and i get TXT and VT-d.

Its my understanding only one core can do 4.2 with turbo

What cooler? Just the stock?

Nope. I can actually turn turbo off and set my multipler to 4.2. I have not done much testing at 4.2 yet, but I did boot with it. I will confirm soon.

Build:

i5 2500K (Stock heatsink)
Gigabyte P67A-UD4
4GB AData 1333 MHZ 9-9-9-24

Stable @ 4.6 w/1.375v

Stable @ 4.8 w/1.475v

Temps are hot. Hits mid 70s at 1.475v. I would think mid 60s when I get my Megahelms on there.

TBH I was hoping for 5ghz with these chips.

4.8ghz is very nice, though.

I guess these results kill the notion that we won't need high end air cooling for SB.

Dunno. Sounds like 4.6 is possible on a stock cooler. Seems impressive to me. I only want 4.4 or 4.5 anyway.

Hope some of the folks who already have i7s and are getting these can give us some basic bench comparisons too. Even SuperPi would be a good start.

My expected build (some parts of which I already have) will be:

i5 2500K w/ Zalman CNPS10X Performa
Asus P8P67
4 GB Corsair Dominator 3 CAS 8 DDR3 1600
120 GB Intel or Corsair SSD (Yep, definitely doing it this time)
2x1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3s in RAID 0
GTX 460 (or something like that)
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Samsung 2333T LCD

It will be a couple of weeks before I fully bring it up.

Currently @ 4.2 GHz (42x100) on my i5-2500K. Gigabyte P67A-UD3 board and Hyper 212 Plus cooler. Seems fine in initial runs of Prime95, but I'm starting an overnight run soon.

Looks good, low vcore I assume? That board doesn't have as much cooling so I'd like to see your overnight results.

I think the 2600k has better potential, as many pro and peer reviews I've seen have been able to reach 5 with around 1.475-1.5v. Some i5 2500k chips will hit 5, but only at very high volts. I'm happy with my current 4.5 clock.

And yes, that whole "aftermarket cooling industry is done" idea is false. Your temps get pretty high as you push past 4.5 or 4.6.

Yeah, I've got it set on Auto and it shows up as 1.068 in CPU-Z.

I've got a side fan pointing at the board, push-pull on the hyper 212, and a 120mm intake.

Cpu-z has a bug preventing proper vcore display. 1.56.2 is fixed.

But man, those temperatures...59 at 4.2GHz. My i5 750 can only dream about that.

Idle seems a bit high though...did you disable eist/c1/c-states by any chance? These chips are supposed to do better with eist/c1e enabled. Not sure about the other c-states, i'd be nice if you could see at what freq they cause instability, if at all.

or what SickBeast says.
