SB Live! Value or X-Gamer

Is X-Gamer worth the X-tra money? what do you get with it?

Also, what is the best place to buy the SB Live from? how about beyond computers? they have it for $52 shipped... is there anywhere cheaper?

what games come with it?
and that website has it for just about the same price, only difference is shipping is ground for 10.55 instead of 2-day for 12.00.

I already have UT, so maybe I'll order the Value card and buy Q3 from outpost for $30. What do you think of beyond computers? anyone ever have trouble with them?
thanks

I have talked to someone about the two cards, and they surmise that alot of the decoding/MIDI of the value is done by the CPU instead of the sound processor. If you ask me (or the creative website) theres really no difference in any of the live cards except what comes in the box with them, but Id like to know if anyone has a DEFINITE answer to this one, since my sound card just died last night 😛

All the cards are the same exept that the value has cheaper plastic plugs in the back(instal of aluminium ones). They all Have the emu10k programable chip and all the boards are basicaly the same exept for software.

X-Gamer has digital out if you want to hook up your computer to a receiver. I don't think the Value has digital outs.

The only Value that doesn't have digital out is the original (ie: pre-fall 99). As soon as the X-Gamer and the others came out all of them have been using the same board with the same connectors.

The old value has digital out but is internal connection not the nice little external. The live family all use the same cards.

The new Values (rev.2) have digital out in the back, and IT IS the same card as the x-gamer. Only the Live (old one) and the Live Platinum (and platinum 5.1) have the metal plugs in the back. The rest are all color plastic...

hmm.. now that I look pc-beyond.com has 2.2 on resellerratings. ussa.com has the card for $2 cheaper, and their rating is 2.7... still not that great... where did you buy yours from?

actually, the Live MP3+ (and possibly the X-gamer) have metal connectors. I just don't know if they are painted alluminium or real cheap gold.

thanks noxipoo!

but what about that pci 512 card someone mentioned... how does it differ from the live! value?

Let's clear things up a bit here.

The Value Rev. 2 has the external digital out connector, but lacks the CD-SPDIF input that the current retail cards have.

I've got a 512 running in my P3 800 and the card mixes web-radio and Diablo 2 simultaneously with no rice crispies.

Supports EAX too but I turned that off as it got kinda annoying after awhile.
