SB Live! Value and Pro2-A and IRQ Holder for PCI Steering..?

I'm still having loop lockup problems with my SB Live! Value and Pro2-A. I've done everything that has been suggested:

- disabled onboard sound
- disable serial ports and usb
- reserve IRQ5 for legacy audio
- disable SB16 emulation (within win98 control panel)

Everyone always stresses that the SB Live! needs to have it's own IRQ. It does.. well sort of. It is using IRQ3 and is in slot3. It is NOT sharing an IRQ with any device, but it is sharing with "IRQ Holder for PCI Steering". Could this be my problem still, or does it just not need to be sharing with an actual device?

Thanks.

I'm sure you've done this already, but have you fully run/test your system without SBLive installed? What I mean is that try to run it without the SBLive to make sure that is the culprit(sp?) of your lockups. I have never dealt with Pro2A yet, but I've built 3 machines for my friends using Athlon/Duron with KT133 chipset mobos with SBLive (2 with Live 5.1 cards & 1 with Live Value) and I have had no lockups whatsoever. I used EPox boards & yes, they were all oc'd machines. :)

"IRQ Holder for PCI Steering" will be on almost all of your "non-legacy" type IRQ's, i.e. 9 thru 11, so don't sweat it. It means nothing.

What OS are you using? If you're using 2k or ME, there are specific drivers for those OS's, i.e. DON'T use the NT or Win98 drivers

I gave up for a while on the SB Live! Value and used onboard sound for a while. Absolutely no problems. I put it back in, I can make it crash in 2 minutes (play a DivX movie, mp3, and Sandra's burn in wizard).

RoboTech, I'm using Windows 98 (non-SE). Should I consider upgrading to SE, 2k, or even ME?

Thanks.

My FSB is just running at 100mhz.. haven't touched anything. I know other people have had this problem with the Pro2-A and SB Live!, but I think most just gave up on it.. haven't heard from anyone that fixed it. The thing is, it seems to only lockup on heavy disk usage when sound is running.. I let quake3 loop for a while with no problems, but if I do the DivX + mp3 + Sandra burn in, then it'll lockup within 2 minutes every time.

I read somewhere about adjusting the I/O voltage? Anyone heard about that?
Thanks.

Slots 1, 3, and 5 are shared on the Pro2-a. Be sure no cards are in #1 and #5. Leave sb live! in slot 3. Have you tried disabling the VGA IRQ?

I've got my SB Live! Value in Slot2 using IRQ5 (not sharinig with anything else), and my network card is in Slot4. I haven't tried disabling VGA IRQ, but I'll give that a shot right now. Thanks for the suggestion.

edit: IRQ5, not 3
edit2: Disabling VGA IRQ only made my GeForce2 GTS not work in windows. Defaulted to 640x480 16 colors for some reason.

Im using this motherboard with all slots but 1 filled, usb, and a few things sharing irqs(not video or sound)

Im using the live platinum 5.1 and my sound is all good on this computer. I have been using it for a couple months.

although Im having a problem recently on the damn computer just going into some deep sleep I think its some bios setting or the overclockers bios I downloaded cause I haven't touched a damn thing since.

But I don't have any windows lockups and I play allot of cd music and mp3's while surfing the net. haven't had the sound not work in any games either. And Im talking not 1 random freeze or crash with stuff at the desktop.

It appears I've fixed the problem. I installed the 4-in-1 drivers one at a time per someone's advice, and it appears to have fixed the problem! Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!
