SB Live problem

Well I finally got fedup of waiting for Creative to release a SB16 Win2k driver so I bought a SB Live (with aparent Win2k support). After a lot of fiddling I've finally managed to get it to play through the left speaker. The last problem I have with it is that if I'm playing something with WinAmp and then there is another sound (say a click in IE or something) WinAmp's output goes very stuttery. Does anyone know whats up?

The SB Live and Abit board don't go well together... this was a very common problem when the release of the board came out, or least to some extent there was sound problems... I actually had a similar problem and fixed it by simply freeing up more resources and of course disabling SB 16 emulation (i'm not even sure u'd have to do that in W2k). I'm sure someone can post a link to a faq page or fix page. Although i fixed my problem, i'm very dissatisfied with my sound quality with this upgrade, however, it's not that bad.

I have heard this a couple of times now, which SB live doesn't go well, or is it all of them, I have had no probs. I have the SB16 emulation running sharing IRQ with the LPT port.

Yeah, SB16 emulation isn't availabe in Win2k so that's not the problem. I've found that if I change the output from DirectSound to just a direct wav output it is ok. Mabey I should try re-installin DX.

I believe the majority of problems were with older Value cards, however, there have been a handful of people wiht lives that experienced similar problems. It's good that you don't have any problems and to even be running SB16 emulation on any board/chipset is a feat in Windows 9x. Most people, no matter their system specs, have to disable it for some reason or other.
