SB Live line-in problem - I need your advice - FIXED

I have my vcr's audio in connected to the live's line-in and when I play a tape or cable I can hear it but I can't record with with programs like Asus Live or WinVCR it's as if there's no codec but I have the device listed and all codecs. Any suggestions.

let me get this straight...
you have the vcr's IN ... connected ... to the sblive IN?
umm...
i beleive it's ... vcr's OUT connected to the sblive IN
or vice versa...out to the in!

sorry I meant to say the vcr out. it's just wreid I can hear it but can't record it.

Check that your recording settings aren't muted.

1. Open - Volume control (under Programs - Accessories - Entertainment)
2. Pull Down - OPTIONS menu, then select PROPERTIES
3. Select - Recording - then be sure your "LINE IN" is selected
(if you are useing the "LINE IN" on a Live Drive or Live Drive 2 it will "LINE IN 2&quot
4. Click OK - check settings

My guess is that you will find that your Recording setting for the "LINE IN" is muted. If you have never changed these settings before it will be muted (it is "muted" by default upon software installation)

hehehe. I laugh because I had this problem for MONTHS! I could hear all but couldnt record! I was using live wire 3.0 and the is a setting in the record options from the drop down menu that says something like record "what you hear" or something like that. When I go home i'll send better info.

Update: no the line in was not muted if it was I would not be able to hear it.
The weird thing was that I could hear it from the line-in but not able to record it or have it goto the volume control, even though I was able to hear it and adjust the volume. I did all that was suggested and nothing. but then I installed Window Media encoder 7 and on the first recording try the sound dint't work, then on the second try it worked. Ever since the line-in now seems to be able to goto the volume control and I'm now able to record the sound. Act of God is what I call it.
