open up volume control
options
properties
select recording
make sure Line-In and Line-In2 are selected
OK
make sure the appropriate one is selected (I believe it's Line-In 2)

ok, i did that and it works. however, there is A LOT of static from the satelites and sub!! :(

i tried adjusting the SB controls by playing with the input and output volumes but when i get it to a point where there is no static, i have to crank up th TV volume to double or triple the normal amount to hear it.

is the live drive just not made to do this??

oh yeah, when i do the speaker check via the SB Live utility, (i chose the 4 speaker set up) only yhe front 2 speakers say "LEFT FRONT, RIGHT FRONT" and the back speakers dont work. when i play the movie or mp3s, sound however does come out of them.

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

I have the Live! Drive also and I think that the RCA-type jacks are actually coaxial S/PDIF in/out, which carries digital sound. I'm surprised that you got any sound out of them.

If it is a hum, and seems to be in the 50-60 hz range, then it is probably ground loop hum. You can get rid of it by buying ground loop "blockers". Radio shack sells them for 5 or 6 bucks a piece. Can't remember the exact name of the there. But it happens a lot when connecting computers to other electronics devices, that don't share the same ground connection. Happens a lot in houses where you computer is separated by a large space and may be on a different wiring circuit.
Or the component you plugged it onto doesn't actually have a ground connector. TV's are pretty much one applainace that doesn't have a 3 prong plug. Where your computer does. So lok around online or at readio shack for ground loop eliminators.
