I just got a SB Live! 5.1 Sound Card, and I have Cambridge Soundworks (a division of Creative) speakers. However, whenever I load up WinXP, it only gives me 2 speaker support when I have all 4 connected. Only until I go to my mixer settings and re-set the value to 4.1 or 5.1 will all 4 speakers work. Is there a way to make them work when WinXP is started?

Sorry, I'm just perusing posts and reading titles that jump at me. I don't think I can offer much help other then to suggest reinstalling the software supporting your sound card. I just picked up a new Dell system with SB Live! (not 5.1). The right channel kept fading in and out. On a lark I reinstalled the drivers and it SEEMS to have solved the problem (knock on wood). My experience with Creative has been that their hardware is quality, it's the supporting software that's flakey.

You may want to try posting in the General Hardware forum. There were some members there discussing compatibility between various 5.1 speaker systems and sound cards that seemed to know what they were talking about. The thread title is: Klipsch Promedia 5.1 + 5.1 channel sound card.

Good luck.

If your media source doesn't produce surround sound, then it won't come out of your speakers. So you have to make sure that you are testing your system with media encoded for 5.1 or better. This is particularly the case if you are using the digital output from the SB Live card. You can get around that by simply using the analog output.
