i had an abit BP6 and it was a POS. It had leaking capacitors and the IDE/66 feature never worked right.

I had one and loved that thing. Eventually, there was an issue with the controller, but for the longest time, I OC'd the hell out of that thing and it worked beautifully.

"Abit" of junk was the phrase around here. Good riddance to this firm and their product lines.



Asus mostly avoided the mess.

Abit was using all Rubycon caps on nForce 2 mobos and later. Can't say the same for Asus and to think they used to charge a 865PE board the same as a Abit 875P board that was also more overclockable makes them complete ripoff in comparison.

LOL the IC7 max3 on the 875p was the best motherboard period for the p4 i owned a old email machine with its sister the ic7-g i believe and it wasn't bad at all but later on sold it.

Only undisputed motherboard for 478 was the ic7-max3 and the asus p4c800-e deluxe which i happened to own till 2007 and got at a swapmeet for $50 new in box in 2006 and it clocked a p4 out of a dell dimension 2400 right up to 3.4ghz on air and for that chip it was rare.

When it went south, I jumped on the AMD bandwagon and built a machine using a chaintech VNF4 (remember them?) board and AMD3800.
Still had the P4 lying around and it was still pretty decent at the time so I got the cheapo Shuttle board ($55 at the time). 865PE chipset

After rerunning all my benchmarks and running through a couple of games I played at the time...there was no difference between running on the Abit board or the cheapo Shuttle board.

Abit did have some nice products...I just always put on my skeptical hat whenever I saw the ABIT silkscreen on a motherboard.

i only had 1 abit but it was a good board. much better than the asus board it replaced. much due to the wonky ati chipset on the asus board, but asus didn't do anything to support that board either.

ah the memories...

had a few NF7 series boards that were rock solid for 5+ years. i also had a few IS7 series boards that OC'ed like mad w/ intel P4 chips. and finally, i also had an IC7 board that also OC'ed like mad w/ intel P4 chips.

Not sure what it was about my asus p4c800-e deluxe until windows 7 came out i went through a few motherboards mostly on 775 and that old 875pe with windows xp booted up nearly twice as fast as any core 2 duo machine and i carried the same hard drives over just that for some reason that chipset just enabled a very fast boot up that wasn't beat till i toyed with a couple ssd hard drives just last year.:awe:

Yeah. All japanese Rubycon caps on an Abit NF-M2 nview AM2 mobo too. Just sold that off to make way for 1155.

Worked great for 4.5 years. No leaky caps.

my daughter's ip35 was still going strong when I retired it last year, replaced it with an ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 and a 1090t. was going to go sb for her but just before that the chipset issue surfaced and I went with amd as a result.

I hope that you found a good home for that ip 35. I still have both my ip35-e's running great. Well, technically, my mom and my daughter's school still have them running great. My ip 35 pro bit the bullet a couple of months ago, but it's time had come after 3 different cpu's and 4 1/2 years of running optimized seti apps + 1-2 gpus 24/7. Mom's ip35-e is still running seti 24/7, though I plan to retire that rig next year (probably will give it to my daughter's school as well).

Considering you joined in feb 2010, and ABIT was dead and gone by then, I assume that you mean "your house" when you use the phrase "around here".

I hope that you found a good home for that ip 35. I still have both my ip35-e's running great. Well, technically, my mom and my daughter's school still have them running great. That's true, though from what I've seen/heard over the years, Abit had a better reputation than most. I know that I was sorry to see them go.

That story about the CEO is amazing. What a sad way for a company to end.

Hail KT7! The king is dead. Um, Softmenu didn't really work for me back then but maybe it was just me. Certainly a nifty feature.

Have to admit that Intel (Foxconn?) has been the king of reliable mobos, if not every time the feature/raw perf king. Reliability trumps though.

I suspect Abit was mostly a victim of VIA chipsets, but who wouldn't have been?
