That's the plan Dave. We need some peace and quiet.

Regarding Ironman, I'm taking that slowly and surely. I am not upping my mileages too quickly. To answer your question directly though, no I haven't. But I will have a stress test and whatever else they think I need done before I get past half iron distances.

No, when we sold our house this past April we got rid of all our non-essential items. No boats, ATVs, etc... Another example of excellent timing if I do say so myself. :p

Cool, now you can certainly do those various Finger Lake triathlons next year :) Looks like your timing sucked, though, just like mine did; I moved from the South to Crotchester in late fall just in time for winter :D

Heating is not terrible, really. The worst we've had (we heat with gas) last winter or the previous was $280/month including electricity but generally it's a lot lower and of course air conditioning costs are not severe. Age of house will impact that of course. You will be able to enjoy the summers again :)

Yep, I'm looking forward to competing in them. I'll probably sign up for all 3 as soon as I get up there and establish my residence.

That's all good to know. I may get to save some money in that case.

My FIL in upstate NY (near Albany) hunts quite a bit. It isn't too hard to get a hunting rifle or shotgun. Handguns are much more difficult. As far as I know, BB guns aren't even regulated.

Congrats on the move, it sounds like things are working out really well. Just so you know though that signing bonus will most likely be taxed pretty heavily. I had my $4k bonus turn into $2.4k because of taxes that apply to bonuses...

Yeah, the taxes will suck, but I was prepared for them. The complete moving package is the sign-on bonus that really attracted me, the 3 estimates we've gotten show that it's going to cost them about $16k to move us to NY, and that doesn't include the storage fees and temporary housing that they'll pay until we find a permanent home. I can't complain at all at this point.

Welcome back to NY.
"Upstate" NY is beautiful. It's a great place to live if you actually have a decent job.
Yea, taxes are high and the government is inept, but what's new? It can't be worse than Texas.

I know what you mean. Most of my wife's cousins have low paying jobs, but they still love it up there. Life is slower and a lot calmer.

Awesome you're getting relo. I had that, too, and it ended up saving me INSANE amounts of money. I'd be in the poor house still if not for that.

You can also go to Tim Hortons now.

Most people would be amazed by what they can get by on money wise.
On the other hand, most people bitch and think they don't have enough.

Congrats. It sounds like this is all working out for you. I used to live in New York, in Kingston. It's very pretty up there.

I eventually plan to migrate to Texas from NY. With the amount of money I'm putting in for a condo here, I could live in a mansion in Texas.

Texas freedom? :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Yeah right

Just because you live in our punk little brother to the North doesn't mean you have to hate, Dave.

I've got the written job offer in hand. And it's not a reimbursement, they're paying the moving company directly. I'm out of the loop, all I do is sign that the house was packed properly and unpacked properly. In my business, I&C Techs are considered to be a prized commodity, especially if they can do controls work, so this is not an uncommon offer.

lol, yeah it wasn't a lot of fun to learn about. But it's just a different DCS with TMR added on and a new HMI.
