Why would it change from album?
But the media independent term is album. When you download an artists full set of songs, you say you downloaded the whole album.Originally posted by: aidanjm

Do people talk about albums these days, tho? I keep hearing people talking about singer X's (or band X's) CD.
But the record company knows they can get $16 for the whole cd when there's only 2 good songs. Why make only $2 for 2 songs when you can make $16 for 2 songs?Originally posted by: Acanthus
Id love to see individual releases rather than albums, then artists can release music as its written. This would also strengthen the case against bands that cram 14 bad songs as filler on a 17 song cd.

I guess so. What will a discography be called, when we don't use discs?
It doesn't cost any more to put 20 songs onto a cd as it does to put 1 on. So you're saying all the songs available via itunes are good songs and were known to be good songs before they were produced? All the songs on itunes still had to be recorded/produced/mastered before they made it to itunes. Can you predict a hit song written down on paper before it's been released? Besides, pressing cds isn't real expensive. They're still going to make a batch of songs hoping for a few hits, so they're going to continue to release them all at the same time and milk that for as long as possible.Originally posted by: Acanthus

Because it costs more to cram those bad songs on a cd, and 2 good songs on Itunes costs you nothing and rakes in cash.
Look at it this way, if something like ituns or napster became the only way to get music, and you had low quality 30 second samples like itunes has now. Why release those horrible songs? All it does is cost them money to record their pre-written trash and toss it on shelves, when they can rake in from the few hits and make good money.

Seriously though, there are a LOT of songs on CDs that are obviously filler music, and are never intended to be hits, or even have a point.
