Say i wanted to make a lightsaber video

Does anyone know how I can achieve this? I'm imagining something like taking a video and editing it frame by frame in photoshop. Theforce.net also has a pretty huge collection of light saber sound effects. However, I've never done video editing before, nor do I know any programs that let you take apart a video frame by frame.

Can anyone recommend me programs that i can use to edit videos and insert the effects and stuff?

yeah. heres the basic idea. you capture a video, using a recognizable stick for the saber. then you export the premiere project to a timeline (a giant image with all the frames) here you create a seperate layer, on which you draw a white line wherever the saber is in the frame. you perform effects/filters on this white lines layer to get the saber effect, and then merge it back into premiere. its a B!TCH to do though. i did a 2 minute clip for a video in high school, it took about 12 hours. and it still didn't look perfect. there was a guide somewhere online, google for lightsaber rotoscoping. 😀

oh nice!! thats exactly what i was looking for 🙂 hmm... i can only afford maybe 200 worth of software, given a student budget in college, so I'm assuming that should be enough to buy Adobe Premier (I already have photoshop). let's hope all goes well in my qust for nerdom
