Can I rip one out from the middle and sign it to someone, or does it have to be in numerical order?

Will the bank care that I started with say, Cheque #074 instead of 001.. or find it suspicious or anything?

it doesn't matter. i think the numbers are more for your sake. like, when you have to balance your check book.

Apparently you can write a cheque on any piece of paper and it's legal tender.

I'd just like to congratulate you on using the proper spelling of cheques. But yeah, they don't care what #.

Use your brain:

Assume you write three checks (in numerical order: numbers 1, 2, and 3) today and give them to 3 different people.

Tomorrow the people receiving checks 2 and 3 take them to the bank to deposit.

The person holding check number 1 doesn't take it to the bank for two weeks.

Do you really think the bank is going to refuse to pay check number 2 and 3 until the guy with check number 1 cashes it?

Come on, use some common sense.

You can write any check you want regardless of what check number it is.....however, when the check is presented by the other person to be cahsed (if they decide to cash it at YOUR bank,) suspicions will arrise and you may be contacted by your bank just as a precaution since the check is not in sequence with previous checks cleared upon your account.

Your bank statement may have a notice that a check number is out of order. Mine does that. (Bank One)

QFT

But it also depends on the dollar amount of the check, and how closely your signature matches.
