While I would not freak out like your co-workers, I would be cautious. Growing up in rural Texas I saw my fair share of copperheads, rattlers and cotton mouths. The Young ones are the worst, their smaller size allows them to strike higher on the leg, above a boot so they have a good chance for penetration. Also the younger snakes will pump more venom due to inexperience. I hope you able to get him moved away to safety though.
