There is a DJ in Detroit whose cat has Diabetes, he kept him and now gives him insulin shots when he needs them. Is that a choice for you?

I'm sorry. :(

Why does he have to be put down, isn't the diabetes manageable?

My cat also had diabetes.. We treated him for several months but I believe his liver began to give out.. One weekend he got real sick.. and could barely walk, or even drink water (much less eat). We had to put him down after that..(obviously)

Putting the cat down early, might be for the best. Its not a pretty sight to see your cat suffering :(

EDIT: BTW, your cat looks just like mine.. mine had more of a beer belly though :D
At least you have some nice pictures of him ;)

We had a cat that lived with diabetes for 6 years. We gave him daily insulin shots after the correct dosage was determined. When he finally passed it was due to old age and a tumor.

Yeah, the appointment has been made already. He's lost a lot of weight and is having a hard time controlling his bladder, so it's time.

I'm tryin' to find the pictures of him when he was just a little kitty. I'll add them to the page if/when I find them.

I don't know if you've seen this before but I hope it brings you a little comfort. What you are doing is very hard but you are sparing your friend much pain and suffering. You've given Zig a good life
he wouldn't want you to be sad as you do the final good thing that you can to help him.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I know this heartache too well. Been there and done that when my 15 year old 15 lb black tom, Eli, developed feline leukemia. :(

Bye, Zig. Legend has it you were a good kitty and a good friend. :(

Well he's gone now.
We burried him in the floor of an old barn at my buddies place. He was a house cat in town and never got to see farm life much, but for the last few months he had been staying at my buddies, where he loved to be in the barn. So we figured that was the best place for him.
