I've got an 89 Celica GT sitting around out at my mom's property that represents the worst car I ever bought. It still runs, but the engine is fuxored. I'm thinking it's time get back at it. I want to cut the roof off. I know it won't be a safe car, I even know that the doors will probably cease to function, unless I weld in some bracing.
This car is already injured and ready to die, and it's value is nil, so I wouldn't do this for any reason except cheap fun. I realize this customization will look cheesy, not classy.
I know it's been done, so I'm asking if anyone has any helpful tips for cutting off the roof of a car. What were the results? How long did it last before it folded in half? Should I weld in a bunch of angle iron to the floor? What kind of saw and blades should I buy?
I don't have a welder, but I've been longing for a good excuse to buy an arc welder, like what they sell at Sears. Welding doesn't look so tough, I'm sure I could do it.
Don't try to stop me, I'm cRaZy about this idea!
EDIT: No matter what, I've got to get rid of this junker soon.
