What facts are present in the Bible? It's full of parables and other such 'life lessons' but contains little or no actual history or facts.

I am a bit lazy to find the links right now, but I've found that some of the Kings listed in the OT were actual persons (again, they've found evidence for the ones I've researched anyway), some passages speaking about the shape of the Earth, and even the water cycle. Science has confirmed this.

There are other things as well, but since you read it, you should have no issue educating me.

I have morals, and they have nothing to do with bible teachings but instead with our basic human wiring such as empathy and emotions driving my actions.

Good for you. I never said you got your morals from the Bible.

I'm sorry, if we both agreed tomorrow to not spread our 'beliefs' to anyone including our children, do you think religion would last beyond 1 or 2 generations? I don't.

I have no idea. Frankly, all I know is that it should end.

Do you mean you're not at odds with evolution? Not sure what you're actually meaning by your comment.

I infer you are saying, "... that your being at odds with evolution does not bother you."

Your second sentence is right.

I have an issue with evolution, but I don't reject science in general.

Religion is practiced in churches where people of faith gather IN PERSON to worship God. It is irrational to hate religion. :colbert:

Well.... IF religion enabled some zealots to burn at the stake lots of happy folks, I'd think I would be rational in 'hating' the underlying basis that provided the perceived right to do that and I'd probably conclude that to be religion...

Yep, and this make the brotherhood stronger. Worshippers of God always met together... in the OT, encouraged to do it more in the NT.

There is nothing difficult to understand about the Holy Spirit. What makes you think that? And yes, some of the arguments here have been trolls peppered with insults. Its just stupid. Stupid memes, stupid pictures posted here, etc.:|

I'm no Christopher Hitchens, I'm not going to pretend I could even begin to do this. Lets just leave it at we have functional disagreements with each other due to your faith and my complete and utter lack of faith.

Good... Science is pretty good at splaining stuff... but you do have to sorta not reject that which is not biblical... IOW, you need to reinterpret your take on the bible if you are faced with fact that does not agree with what you interpret the bible to say.

What is is... and it is all the workings of God... IF you assume God is God and it - the bible - don't say Evolution is wrong then it is inferred that it is wrong from something interpreted to mean that....

God gave mankind the ability to reason to the truth. IF he created us in his image and IF he provided us with all that we are and all that there is we also seem to be charged with accepting what our reasoning provides. That God given reasoning ability seems to indicate that Science is the path to the mind of God... To our own mind. IF you're not expert in evolution then go inquire from that body of knowledge. There are no authorities in Science... Experts yes... The Bible is NOT an authority for Nature... It is a rational approach to believing in God.

I'd think!

Exodus 22:18

Totally good stuff there... right?

IF you think some folks were witches or what ever and really did do miracles of the bad kind.... then miracles of the good kind are just as real... I figure only one human could have done either good or bad miracles... but they killed him too... Well... not they but their relatives instigated it all...

What should end?

Fine - no issues out of me.

And religion should end.

Black is white, white is black, up is down, down is up, east is west, west is east, hot is cold, cold is hot.

With religion, anything you want can be true.

Without religion anything you want to do can also be also be acceptable. You can violate every one of the Ten Commandments, including theft and murder, and if you dont get caught...then it must be ok. Only the individual gets to determine whats right or wrong, others be damned.

Without prosecution for crimes forbidden by the Ten Commandments then there truly is no justice, for anyone.

God said "Vengeance is Mine" for a reason. It is irrational to hate God or religion.

Where do you think the phrase "four corners of the earth" comes from?

Hehehehehe

The bible folks hadn't a clue... nor the authors either.

I wonder about folks who think that by proclaiming the Earth orbits the sun they can mysteriously make it happen and violate God's rules of order...

OMG.....

So by placing some other god before God a punishment under law is appropriate? ..... Good grief.... is this Iran?

Edit: I so want that Lamborghini my neighbor just got... but only in my heart .... that's ok though I didn't steal it.... I just yearn to possess it... Jesus got that bit wrong..

You lack context, and understanding.

Of course I do.

I mean, you brought up the bible talking about the shape of the earth, and all I did was say what the bible says about the shape of the earth.

Clearly this shows that I lack understanding.

Without religion anything you want to do can also be also be acceptable.

I was discussing what is, not what one wants to do.

You know. Reality? Evidence? Facts? I'm sure you're aware of these concepts.

You can violate every one of the Ten Commandments, including theft and murder, and if you dont get caught...then it must be ok. Only the individual gets to determine whats right or wrong, others be damned.

Yes, that must explain why the prisons are full of atheists.

Oh wait.. they aren't.

Without prosecution for crimes forbidden by the Ten Commandments then there truly is no justice, for anyone.

So true!

When do we start stoning to death all the people who go shopping on the Sabbath?

After that, we can murder all those people who make carvings and statues.

God said "Vengeance is Mine" for a reason. It is irrational to hate God or religion.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster said it first! Your god copied His Pastafarian Holiness!

Why do you hate the FSM? He wishes only to touch you with His Noodly Appendage so you gain Enlightenment. Why? Why do you not Believe?

Religion has no singular claim to what can and can't be acceptable.

I see a woman's right to chose as acceptable and you don't.

Ugh, this won't even be a debate, I'm walking away now.

I want to say one thing that being religious (IMO) definitely has in its favor: Movies that have a demonic theme to them (Event Horizon is one that stands out in particular for me) are MUCH MUCH scarier if you actually believe that such things/places exist! I bet the Exorcist is so much scarier if you believe what you're witnessing on screen is actually possible (even if not quite to such an exaggerated degree)!

Same with old episodes of Unsolved Mysteries, etc. Back when I was a believer, I remember watching some episode where this demon was supposedly terrorizing this family in their home, and supposedly the demon was female (or one of them was) and the female demon actually raped the father!

Life itself is a lot scarier when you believe things that go bump in the night might actually be demons, or supernatural stuffs.

Your stoning is scheduled for Friday at 8:30 am.

Don't be late -- we have a tight schedule, lots and lots of people need to die in order for there to be "justice".

Alright, fine with me.

Hmm. Appreciate the response, but it sounds to me like earlier you bore false witness against me.

Justice must be done.

Your stoning is scheduled for Friday at 8:45 am. Please be prompt.

PS We'd be grateful if you could bring your own stones.

Thats not the point I was making. You are arguing with religion because your atheism is ignorant and backward. If you want to walk away now thats your choice to make.
