Where you guys live bums are probably ok and not violent but in LA, most of them carry knives or some other weapon to protect themselves out on the streets. I will not try to start a fight with a random bum and risk my life. You guys can do it but I won't. Not everyone lives in white picked fences like a lot of you.

Last I heard, knives aren't magic. As an old geezer who's been there and back, I can tell you that the vast majority of folks carrying knives have no idea how to use them. I do realize that many seem to have an innate fear of blades but, that is simply lack of training. I also realize that some folks seem to cherish their fears as if they were actually accomplishments.

You know why those picket fences are so white? You have to keep painting them to cover the blood stains.

So she might be paralized for life all because she tried to stop a petty theft? Good one. But I guess its all worth it right? Considering the guy was caught? Right, I'm sure she would trade being able to walk again over getting involved in the first place.

Look, we get it. You're always going to look out for number one. You plan on living your life based first on managing personal risk. Hope that nice orderly life works out for ya. There's always a first time.

Stopping a man is not equal to stopping a car. Regardless, I'll still take my chances with stopping the criminal. I won't call you a pussy for not doing so -- I realize that most people wouldn't do anything. I just know me, and I know that I react quickly, and I'm pretty positive that I'd take the motherfucker down.

Unless you've got some training under your belt, your better off letting it go.
Trying to do something you're not qualified to do is always risky.

so i was walking into the trainstation last nite in downtown la and across the street, heard a woman scream "stop!" with a bunch of on lookers. some homeless lookin guy snatched her backback and was running towards my way. he ran right towards me and i did nothing. i was just shocked by the situation. physically speaking i could have easily chased and caught him but after thinking about the whole thing, would that really be a good idea? these thugs sometimes carry shanks while i have nothing...why risk something over some woman i dont even know? i felt bad about it but whatever, im not trying to be some hero...the only time i ever react physically to something is if someone does something to anger me.

now if the guy stole my bag id go after him like a cheetah but the question is, what would you do in this situation?

I award you grasshopper thet Anand tech Pussy of the year award!!!

Giving help does not necessarily mean that you tackle the guy yourself. There are other means of giving help like shouting at other people to help catch the bum or throwing something at him like stones to slow him down. Fact is, you did not do anything.

I like to think I'd help, but I probably wouldn't. Maybe if the chick didn't look like a bimbo, but most do.

Lumathix=internet tough guy.

like someone said. there are certain things in life worth rising your life over:

some woman getting raped/beaten up = yes
a $100 purse that can be replaced at macy's = no

You're a dumb fuck, if the dude looked homeless he probably didn't have a weapon and no one said you had to assault the guy. If you would have even tackled him he would have dropped the purse and ran. I don't know about you but when I hear a female screaming it kicks in instincts to protect.

When your in a public area like a train station your intinct is to not get involved, unless you already had made a decision (like tallbill) ahead of time to get yourself involved with that type of stuff. Deal with it. Most people, including all of you would have done nothing.

I alway go for a round house kick then I go for a full elbow to the face then I ask myself: What would Jesus DO?
Actually I would have to try to stop the guy But that is just my gut reflex I have stopped a burgler Before once. No ninja stuff I just scared him and sent him running down the street. Ps. he could out run me BTW.

That must've been one hell of a purse snatcher you let get away...was he also 4000lb and made of steel?

Not much of a comparison there.

What would you do? Shoot him?

If he pulls a knife, absolutely.

QFT. Which is why threads like this are useful for deciding for yourself beforehand which category you want to be in. I agree it's a personal decision.

I'd try to do something to stop the guy if I could. Sure there's a small chance I might end up with a bloody nose or something but my nose will heal. The OP's bruised ego will not.

A few years ago, I was coming home from Drag Racing in Kentucky when I stopped at a gas station. As I was walking out of the gas station I noticed a car pull up, and a guy put on a Halloween mask. He got out of the car with a machete and went it and held up the gas station. I called 911 as the guy was entering and proceeded to follow him in my GTO until the cops fishtailed him and arrested him. Had I not followed him, I don't know if the guy would have ever been caught.
