saw someone get mugged last nite

so i was walking into the trainstation last nite in downtown la and across the street, heard a woman scream "stop!" with a bunch of on lookers. some homeless lookin guy snatched her backback and was running towards my way. he ran right towards me and i did nothing. i was just shocked by the situation. physically speaking i could have easily chased and caught him but after thinking about the whole thing, would that really be a good idea? these thugs sometimes carry shanks while i have nothing...why risk something over some woman i dont even know? i felt bad about it but whatever, im not trying to be some hero...the only time i ever react physically to something is if someone does something to anger me.



now if the guy stole my bag id go after him like a cheetah but the question is, what would you do in this situation?
 
Probably nothing if it was just someones bag. Not worth risking your life over something that can be replaced so easily.

Even if I was carrying I probably wouldn't pull a gun to try to scare the guy into stopping. Just not worth possibly getting yourself injured or in trouble with the law over something like a purse snatcher.
 
There was nothing near you that you could have grabbed and tee'd up on him? Backpack? Garbage can? Your fist?
 
How would you feel if the situation were reversed, would you want the help of strangers? I think so.

I hope you don't have children to pass your selfish attitude on to. For shame.
 
I wouldn't have risked it either especially since you don't know if the guy is carrying a weapon. At the end of the day its a handbag and can be replaced.

Edit: If a person is being beaten up then that is a different matter.

she was across the street and it was dark all i heard was a woman scream. didnt see what she looked like. and i could not trip him. he was running towards me across the street and stayed running on the street when he saw me. believe me i would have tripped him if he was in distance. once he was passed me he got back on the sidewalk. like i said i could have easily caught up to him after 15 seconds or so of running but whatever.

You are missing the point. What if you were unable to go after them, say on crutches? What if it happened to your mom and some DB was posting about how he did nothing? Does that help put it in prospective?

u did the right thing. If I am ever mugged I will just give them all my shit. I would be mad at losing my wallet more then anything as its very nice. It's not worth a fight over shit like that.

Risking your own physical well-being to help someone who is being physically assaulted is heroic.

Risking your own physical well-being to recover someones stolen purse that probably has less than $50 in it is retarded.

Seems most of the people in this thread fall into the latter category.

if i am on crutches and someone snatches my bag, then someone snatches my bag and i get another one. if someone snatches my moms bag and im not around, then she gets a new bag. im not going to hate on complete strangers who dont want to get into a confrontation with a potentially armed criminal over a purse that belongs to some woman they never met before.
