Saw an XBox at Target today

That's right. Today, I saw a sole, unopened XBox unit in the video game case, waiting for a buyer at $299. I instructed the kid to open the case for me ... ... and had him take out N64's Conker's Bad Fur Day, on sale for $19.99.

XBox can wait!

I went to Super Walmart tonite w/ my wife..

And what a coincidence, they only had 1 xbox left..

I think its a trick to make you think your getting the last one..

and guess what...

it worked..

I have been looking for one since launch, but only had the money to buy one this week.

Went to a Walmart and they got 2 units in their shipment. I managed to grab one. DOA3 is freakin awesome! 😀

Electronics Boutique has a ton of them in stock, but they're all those $399 game package dealies. Kinda sucks, because each 3 game package only has one game in it that I want 🙁

Good, I hope they rot on the shelves. Bundles suck! If they are so worried that you might buy just the unit and go elsewhere for the games, then maybe they should lower their game prices.

I saw an single XBox unit at Target yesterday. You're probably right, I bet they want you to think you're getting the last one. All the employees in the Electronics department there had XBox pins on their shirts. It could be a good marketing move by Microsoft.

Xbox 299.96
Halo 49.99

after tax 370

I leave tomorrow for business trips, and wont be around for my birthday and christmas, so my wife thought she'd be nice and give me something play while I'm sitting in the hotel on my time off..

Halo is freakin awesome, I've finally got used to the controller, and its aight..

I'll pick up DOA3 tomorrow, and some extra goodies..

My wife ROX..

wow the same thing happened to me, I thought I was cool and grabbed the last one. Gonna go there after school and see if they have another "last one". B@stards.

The wal*mart here has had a steady stream of x-boxs come in, but the GameCubes are scarce and pretty hard to find.

I just happened to walk into WalMart here and found one - like a week ago....had to get that badboy. Here the Gamecubes are in stock everywhere. But you can hardly find xboxs. Anyhow, Gamecube strikes me as more of a kiddie console. Just my opinion.

Let me see, do i wanna jump on ghost, or do I want to throw plasma grenades at huge aliens carrying rifles and shotguns???

Tough decision i think not..

I loved Mario, then I turned 6...

Are they really hard to find? I went to Future Shop the other day to get a game, and they had at least 8 Xbox, and just as many Gamecubes...

Nope, but I want to beat the sh!t out of my friends with super smash bro's melee 🙂. Who cares if it's a kiddie game, it's HELLA FUN.

-He'll yea. Right now it's so hard to decide: Xbox, PS2 or GCube.

Xbox:

"The Xbox is truly the wild card in the equation. I can see where fans of RPGs might be excited for Project Ego and proponents of first-person shooters will be into Unreal Championship, but I'm having problems finding exclusive games for the console over the next 12 months that will compel people to drop 300 bones for it. The Xbox currently isn't offering much next year unless you're into RPGs or can't ever get enough of first-person shooters. I know that Microsoft is doing everything in its power to avoid it, but the Xbox's software library is already starting to remind me a lot of the PC's. The only missing element is real-time strategy games." -gamespot

PS2:

"After the first eight months of the PlayStation 2's existence in North America being relatively disappointing, Sony's latest console has really hit its stride in the past few months. But it remains to be seen if the momentum can be maintained. Many of the high-profile PS2 games that players have been waiting for were released in the past month, which leaves little on the immediate horizon that will move consoles. Of course, the one obvious exception would be Final Fantasy X. Square's next installment in its popular RPG franchise will undoubtedly sell some PS2s, and the online-only Final Fantasy XI should give the PS2's network a good push if it actually makes its release date in North America next year. In fact, RPG fans will finally be able to get their fill next year on the PlayStation 2 with games like Grandia X and Xenosaga being released. While there aren't a great deal of killer apps currently scheduled for the PS2 next year, there's a healthy number of midlevel releases planned that will force consumers to keep an eye on it" -gamespot

GCube:

"If you believe what Nintendo tells you, next year is going to be a great year for GameCube owners. But we all know how Nintendo can make promises and not deliver. Nintendo is pulling out all of its heavy hitters next year, but if history is any indication, some of the games will likely be delayed. Who in their right mind would believe that the new Mario and Zelda games will be released in the same year? Mario Sunshine is expected for release this summer (keep your fingers crossed) and should be absolutely huge, Zelda is supposed to be ready for the next holiday season (yeah, right), and Metroid Prime's development has had more snags than a sweater in a thorn bush. The only high-profile games that can be counted on 100 percent are Eternal Darkness, the slick-looking remake of Resident Evil, Soul Calibur 2, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet. Of these five games, only Star Fox Adventures and Eternal Darkness look to be epic experiences that will lock players down for weeks. And Eternal Darkness has quickly turned into the GameCube whipping post after some lackluster appearances at trade shows. As for Resident Evil, I would venture to guess that most have played the original by now, but with the photo-realistic visuals and 70 percent of the game being changed, it may bring players of the old version back into the fold while satisfying a new audience at the same time. And as you probably already know, Soul Calibur 2 is coming to all three consoles so it won't provide a definitive advantage for Nintendo. Also, don't forget about the GameCube-GBA link that will be exploited for the first time next year in Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble 2. Or, as we like to call it, Flippin' Kirby. There are plenty of other games scheduled for release next year on the GameCube that deserve attention such as Donkey Kong Racing, Kameo: Elements of Power, and WWF Wrestlemania, but it's hard to believe that all of them will be released next year, if history is any indication--especially when you consider that the master of game delays, Rare, is developing both Donkey Kong Racing and Kameo. Nintendo has always been known for surprises, and the company is going to need some if it hopes to keep the entire year filled with quality games. But if it manages to honor its release calendar for next year as it stands right now, look out." -gamespot

We'll what Gamespot is basically saying is that the GameCube stands the better chance of surving is Nintendo plays there cards right. And why not? With first party titles like Mario, Zelda and Kirby how can they go wrong. The Xbox has to many PC ready titles. Meaning that the game will more than likely be ported right to the PC, so why should I buy the console? Also, Halo is the only game that I want to play on the Xbox and nothing else excites me. The PS2 has some amazing games that have just been released, but I don't know. The gamecube is the best choice out of the three!!

Nintendo had 1 decent fighting game "Killer Instinct" it had a great complex fighting engine..

But it SUCKED on N64...

How is this going to be better; maybe it'll be easier, and all you have to do is hit that BIG RED button..

and it still looks 2D..

I'll tell you why this statement doesn't hold much weight anymore. First of all, Microsoft is using its corporate muscle to bully game developers into NOT porting their Xbox games over to the PC. They're basically telling the developers "look, if you want to develop a game for our console, go for it...but sign this contract that says you won't port it to the PC." I'm sure they're enforcing something like that with the third party developers. First-developers like Bungie have no choice but to listen to what the big MS says.

Secondly, the Xbox is a much more attractive option for many developers that would have otherwise gone towards the PC. Its got very similar to hardware to the PC so a large development equipment footprint is not needed (I doubt the SDKs cost as much as PS2 or Gamecube SDKs). The programming is fairly straightforward as it uses DirectX which many PC developers are already familiar with (lets not get into PS2's proprietary "emotion engine").

Now here's the clincher: development time. If a PC game developer wants to make a game, they have to expect about 40% actual game development and 60% testing, debuging, compatibility issues, optimizing. Not only that, they have to make sure Joe Schmoe on his S3 Savage4 2000 can run this game. Otherwise they won't see sales. So they won't implement a lot of high end DirectX 8 features until EVERY SINGLE GAMER can use them. Without a broad range of compatibility they won't even break even on their development costs. To achieve this compatibility, they have to spend months and months on optimizing and testing. The actual game content can be done after less than a year, but thats not even half the work. Thats why you see so many canceled PC titles.

For fledgling game developers the Xbox is a godsend. Its one piece of hardware with no crazy compatibility issues. They can cut their development time by almost half. They can see more profits, and they can focus on content rather than compatibility.

Thats why you should by an Xbox.

Damn good post Shiva..

heres another way too look at it..

If you could buy a game that took full(FULL) advantage of your 1.6TB, and GF3, would you buy it??

I would, but I have yet to see one game that takes FULL advantage of my hardware..

Some look good, AquaNox for example, but yet they also have too make it to run on a TNT2..

Halo is made to run on the Xbox, thats it, the skys the limit..

They can tweak each game for the best visual quality, w/o worrying if Joe Schmoe can run it on a P2 350 and a V3..
