Have you ever actually driven a car? Do you know how to read? These cars weren't "but a lane away". They were TWO lanes away and, as such, could have easily seen each other's intentions had they a) made them known, and b) looked.

You obviously went to the same driving school as Britboy.

lol....this thread is entertaining.

No kidding. Honestly, Britboy's response was the best. His post is almost sig material... I might have to give that some thought.

It's like "okay, here's exactly NOT how to drive... read Britboy's instructions and DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE!"

I'd say that you can because car makers design blinkers so that see a flashing front, rear, or side marker in profile...but suppose otherwise...

I'm sure you can definitely see an entire car that you're about to crash into

If I see someone weaving in and out of traffic coming up behind me, I make sure to match speeds with the nearest vehicle and throw up a rolling roadblock. It has to be blatant agressive driving though for me to react that way.

I was fortunate the past few times I had to do that I got eye contact from the other driver, so we acknowledged that we both wanted ot merge into the lane in the middle, and so we did so without a problem.

I guess I'm prudent, but when I learned to drive, my parents made sure I never merged into anyone's blind or when I'm parallel with some guy 2 lanes away. I guess that's why I check now..

Using your blinkers in this situation would not have helped, and there's more to it than using a blinker.

For those of you who don't check 2 lanes away when you merge, learn to. Problems arise even though the chances of a merge-at-the-same-time is very low.

These were two modern SUVs. You have a point with much older cars, but the real value in this incident is that had they followed just ONE rule out of... say... 7... the whole thing could have been avoided entirely.

Like b0mberman said: at the very least, they should have noticed an SUV coming right at them.

OP you come off as more than a little boorish/condescending (kids? wtf).. yes, the two drivers are idiots and probably deserved what happened, but to watch smugly as the two vehicles collided? I don't know man.. do you honestly think a driver would have thrown a brick/pulled a gun on you ON THE FREEWAY if you just tapped your horn a couple times? Thankfully nobody was hurt, but I know if one of the children in the cars had gotten injured as I stood by and watched (in delight, no less) I would have felt guilty as fvck. The fact that they didn't was not only lucky for them, but also for you..

I suppose you're also one of those people who laughs at smokers who develop lung cancer.

What if it just makes them more aggressive so that search for the tiniest gap and surge for it?

Using my blinker during a lane change on my way to work today kept me from getting in what would have been a rather nasty accident. But, since I was using my blinker, the BMW 5-series that was sitting off my right-rear quarter gave me a few honks to let me know he was there. First time I've ever head to jerk the wheel at 70+ MPH to avoid an accident that *I* would have caused.

For those who don't use blinkers: do you think you're special?

Fortunately, I can live with that.

Hell yes! It's happened to me and plenty of others before. Read a couple posts up. I had one guy slam on his brakes while cutting me off, just because I honked at him. I had a lady throw a half-empty 2 liter soda bottle out of her sun roof for the same reason.

Result? I don't honk unless I absolutely HAVE to. I just mind my own business. If you want to run yourself into a utility pole, who am I to get in your way. After all, no good deed goes unpunished.

Just make sure that whatever you do, you don't put ANY blame WHATSOEVER on the two morons who collided ;) .

I don't laugh at them, but I'm certainly not suprised when it happens. The only thing that really surprises me in those situations is the fact that they're surprised.

I learned my tailgating lesson like that when I was 17. Some guy cut me off and I honked at him (you know... just warning him like F22 suggests!). He flips me the bird and SLAMS on his brakes. Next thing I know I'm picking engine parts up off the road.

Now, if I even *think* you're going to come into my lane, I slow down and give you room. Even if you do manage to cut me off, I still back off ASAP. I have no idea what you're going to do next.

Lastly, unless I just lose my temper, I don't honk unless I absolutely have to. You never know what the other person's response is going to be. Under no circumstances would I have honked at these people today. It's just not worth it. Everyone is out there worry about themselves and only themselves (and sometimes not even that)... so I'm going to do the same. I'm my problem. You're your problem.

A-fcuking-men.

It blows my mind how many jackasses there are on the road. Non-stop, 24 hours a day, the roads are filled with them. Like you've said many times, you just don't know what the other person is capable of...I mean, besides driving like a complete moron with no regards to human life.

I've heard way too many stories about people "getting back" or "showing them" by flipping the bird/cutting off/speeding up/slowing down/etc., only to have the agressor do something even more insane to said person (killing them, running them off of the road, tailgating them for miles and miles, etc.). It's just not worth the stress to act like that.

Slow down, back off, and thank your god that you're still alive.

Good rant, OP.

Since you said they are unaware of their surrounding, I don't see how using blinker would help in this situation.

Your rant = 4/10.

OP you take a bit too much pleasure in the injury/misery of others. The rant was fine - people who don't check/use blinkers piss me off too. But i wouldn't take pleasure in watching them hit each other, might chuckle but I wouldn't be ecstatic. If it had happened in the lane in front of me I would have probally honked since if they hit hard, you would have been part of the accident. And even though the fault is entierly theirs you would have been involved in a nasty wreck.

jbourne77, crystal has a point. With their total lack of SA (situational awareness), it would have happened anyway. You would have more notification instead of going "no way" as it dawned on you. As for the horn, they probably would not have noticed that one either. Glad you weren't in the debris field.

BTW, saw a twit do this across two lanes as as single rider into the carpool lane to avoid traffic stopping in front of him (not paying attention on so many levels). The driver in the HOV lane was a hero, BUT still could not get out of the way. Side-swiped even after jinking hard onto the shoulder without bobbling and doing it immediately. It really sucked that a good driver at the top of their game still got nailed.

I see... so you just draw some arbitrary line in the sand between "taking pleasure" and "chuckling"? Where can I buy this book of rules of yours, so I can make sure that my own reactions to events around me fall within the acceptable boundaries you've defined?

I don't recall saying I pitched a tent and held a BBQ in celebration. I pretty much did exactly as you said you would do: I chuckled.

A few of you seem to think that I took this opportunity to throw the space-time continuum into slo-mo so I could enjoy this over the course of about 13 minutes, when what I should have done was stop time entirely, toss on my superman outfit, and using my superhuman strength, prevent these two twits from bumping.

Get some perspective, folks. This took place over about 2 to 3 seconds.

Hmm. I'm not sure what that was all about but thanks for the input.

90% of my commute is freeway driving. Busy freeway driving. I went home for lunch today and was driving a section of the freeway that is 3 lanes wide.

So I'm in the cruising lane (that's the middle lane for you idiots who think all the lanes are the same) and notice a couple cars behind me just weaving in and out of traffic (though not competing with each other) without signaling. Whatever. I'm a stationary object as far as they're concerned so no big deal. Anyway, one car passes me on the left while the other car passes by me on the right. They both settle at a speed about +5MPH of my speed. One car is ahead of me in the fast lane, the other is ahead of me in the merge lane.

Now the fun part...

TOTALLY UNAWARE of their surroundings - especially each other - they both slowly drift into my lane right in front of me. I'm thinking "SWEET! Front row seats!" as they both enter the cruising lane and COLLIDE.

Now what did we learn, kids?

USE YOU STUPID FSCKING BLINKERS!!!! LOOK FOR OTHERS USING THEIR STUPID FSCKING BLINKERS!!!!

I see stuff like this *almost* happen just about every day, but this is the first time it actually resulted in an accident. It was a minor accident - no one was hurt - they just scared the living piss out of each other I'm sure.

Sorry, I don't know the demographics of the cars' occupants, though I can only assume that one car was full of wiggers and the other was full of soccer moms.

You see, kids, the problem with not using your blinkers is that when you start drifting all over the goddamn road, no one knows WTF you're doing. You're unpredictable. When two of you idiots occupy the same general space on the road, you have a recipe for disaster. Because not only do you twats not like to use blinkers, you also think that it's "girly" to look around you before you just drift from lane to lane with no warning to other drivers.

I know some of you think that you're asserting yourself as the Alpha Male on the road by making a statement that you can take whatever lane you please, whenever you please, with no prior warning to anyone. I know that others are simply brain dead behind the wheel. Your lame excuses are irrelevant. You're a liability to yourself and everyone around you.

Learn how to drive or don't.

damn. I was hoping that you were involved in the accident and died. :(

you should have honked to warn them. every accident in your area = increase in your premium. albeit it may be a penny, if everyone aggregately acted responsibly, insurance rates would drop. plus it would make you a better human being.

Because I failed to do that, I am the Devil.

I gotta agree, these drivers deserved it and it was probably a long time coming.

This is an entertaining thread ... I'll be back to see how someone else blames JBourne
