You can make a left turn onto a street when you're at a red light? I know you can do that if the street your turning onto is a one way... but ... am I missing something?
Oh well I guess it wasn't red for them it was still green. It's just that they lost right of way since they'd lose their green arrow.

I'm not going to back up, I'm already going forward as fast as I can, and you're not going to drive into the side of my car.
You won't if it means ramming a mercedes that has right of way :)

wow. that guys sounds like fvcking dick.

On some local roads, it's almost impossible to make a left hand turn while the light is green, and it's immensely dangerous to make the turn after it turns red. I usually don't try to punish other motorists for shoddy road design.

So this guy 'outpricked' you just by gunning into the intersection?? If he outpricked you, I can't imagine what kind of prick you are.

Yup. I fscking HATE it when people do that. I'll usually give them the horn/high-beams combo platter. :D

He risked an acciident to prove his point.

Well, this wasn't such a case. Long green arrow and ample time to turn if you're willing to wait until the next light so you can get another arrow, or just wait until others are done going and go on the orange if you have to.

Exactly. To get to work everyday I have to turn from Northbound to westbound (left) onto a road at an intersection that looks like this miniature drawing: ---| There is no green arrow. North and South get the longest green light in the world (which is good because there are high traffic volumes N/S and little volume going East). Southbound traffic is so heavy that I only get to turn left on green maybe once a week. All the other times I have pull into the middle and wait for the longest green light in the world to turn red. THEN I have to wait for the fvckers that run red lights before I make my turn.

edit: I see that this situation doesn't parallel yours. But still, there are times when you have to be considerate to people blocking the intersection to make left turns.

That's nothing...

What I enjoy is people making a left on a green light(no arrow) who think they have the right away to oncoming cars(me) making a right on a green light.

If my wife isn't in the car I normally force them to slam on the brakes or into the other lane.

Yeah wives ruin the fun on the road :)

I know exactly what skoorb is talking about, here in west palm it's actually so bad that left turners will still keep turning on the red causing the other traffic to miss their light.

I do that all the time - I'm getting VERY good at launches in both my vans because of it. Most intersections around here have lights to control left turn lanes now, however. They didn't when I first started driving, and a few still don't. I can probably beat most ricers off the line in the 3/4 ton.

Merc right? was he an old guy? Just probably lacked the patience...or I just didn't understand how close he actually got to hitting her car.

NO sh1t, my wife b1tched me out just a few days ago for scaring the hell out of her by doing the same thing. Good thing the guy making a left turn on red got moving, I cleared him by a couple feet. We both smiled at each other during the encounter, no harm done.

I don't understand... how is Skoorb or the other guy a PRICK?!?!?!? IF anything, the person who is denying them the right of way is the prick. I think its fvcking awesome that Skoorb, the guy who supposedly "outpricked" him, and who ever else goes forward to scare the other person. THEY are not the ones who are wrong, it's the guy who tries to sqeeze his turn in. HE needs to be more patient.

Amen. We're just trying to keep things civil here and make people follow the rules of the road!

Bah... horns are not for people who can't do anything about the situation. Don't honk if they've ALREADY done something wrong and need to finish what they started. You honking them after the fact does NOTHING. I'd see "you" as the bigger idiot... WHY THE HELL ARE YOU HONKING THEM... WHAT CAN THEY DO ABOUT IT NOW? (Get it?)

Honking is used for people who don't signal. ;)

There's a minor difference between you doing it and me doing it. And the guy in the Merc doing it. He drives a merc. Bigarse car with battering ram capabilities. I drive a van which possesses severe battering ram capabilities (GO STEEL BUMPER!). You drive a Mazda.
