Saw a Bose store today at the shopping centre.

Hypothetically if you found some Bose stuff at 1/10th its normal price, you'd still be paying more than Aiwa prices for the exact same audio quality.

This has nothing to do with "cool". And you are seriously defensive if you think that.
Its about overpriced crap and not enough people knowing it.

You can justify Apple's cost, you cannot justify Bose.

it's cool to hate on bose.

i'd be pretty surprised if more than 5% of the people hating on bose in this thread has actually hear their expensive speakers. i actually heard them this weekend while in a store demo'ing home theater furniture and they sounded pretty nice. no clue on the price though, but they sounded decent.

the bose system in my g37s also sounds phenomenal.

Its more than just how they sound - I hate how they seem to use proprietary connectors on everything (or at least everything I have seen). They are even different between models. Cheap HTiB are guilty of this as well

Heh I have a Bose system in my 01 A4. I sat in an 08 A4 and turned on the radio. The first thing I said to the sales lady. This isnt a bose? She said it was an Audi surround system or something. I could tell immediately and am in no shape or form an Audiophile. I use a set of 15 year old gateway speakers on my computer and use the speakers in my TV for sound.

You can get better sounding systems for a lot less money.

never said you couldn't. some people don't want to do research or care about doing it, and just want to go to the store and buy something that they like the sound of. nothing wrong with that.

many people just want to buy things that sound good to them so they go to the store, hear it, and buy it. it's just funny how this bothers so many other people.

about 15 years ago, friend pawned his Bose set up he bought for $1200.....for $370. He couldn't get it out, so I offered him $400.

They are ok (at best). They are probably better than most cheapo in box home theater but I would say your average decent 5.0/5.1 set (Energy for $130 or Polk 5.1 for $170) would do as good IF not better job.

From a business perspective, they are brilliant for making money the way they do.

From Consumer perspective, Bose are 2 on the scale from 1-5 (1 being In box HT and 5 the best).

I wouldn't recommend....

No highs and no lows, must be Bose.

That isnt what bothers "so many" other people. What bothers us is the ridiculous masses who have no clue and piss away money on what it effectively poor quality 3D art to show off in their houses, then tell the few of us who know better that Bose is good.

If I get you for my ATOT secret santa this year, I'm modding some Bose speakers into a Macbook & sending it your way

I wouldn't let a friend buy a Bose system.

Forgot to add. I recently got Polk Audio Monitor 50s, Polk CS1 and Monitor 30s (surround) and Polk PSW505.

Grand total: $480

The difference is huge. I basically have to undo 15 years of Bose damage.

Mind you, price I paid is 1/2 if not 1/3rd of what Bose charges for their systems.

Aren't you the guy that has a 5k speakers and feels need to upgrade to 8-10k speakers cause there is a huge difference?

My father has a Bose surround system. Until recently, I had a $200 HTiB set of Polk speakers. Even on a cheap receiver, the Polk sounded as good, and sometimes better, than the Bose. The one area the Bose sounded better was the bass. The Polk sub was just too underpowered for my room. The build quality on the Polk system was far superior to the Bose system my father has. I'd rather pay $200 for the Polk than $1300 for the Bose.

The article linked earlier in this thread goes into detail about Bose build quality, sound testing, marketing, store display manipulations and even the noise-canceling headphones.

With Apple you're at least getting a decent to good quality product that is horribly overpriced. With Bose you're getting a crap quality product that is horribly overpriced.

I'd be surprised if more than 5% of the people here can actually discern in sound quality that they claim to be able to notice. Like if you set them up in a blind test with BOSE and some other equally priced stereo system would they be able to tell the difference? Probably not.

FTFY. 🙂

I find that Bose systems work best with Monster cables.

If someone can't tell the difference between a $1300 Bose system and $1300 in many other brands, then they probably should buy Bose.

I am not an audiophile. I've also been to dozens of rock and metal concerts and have probably damaged my hearing. Still, I can hear a difference. I'm sure other people with more sensitive hearing than me can much more easily discern a difference.

You know, a couple of years ago my friend was looking for some speakers for his living room. He asked me if this particular 5.1 HTiB for $300 was any good. I told him those are shit, and to go audition speakers with me. We went to BB Magnolia and to make a long story short, he ended up getting an Onkyo AVR with a pair of $3K Martin Logan Purity speakers. He's much happier now. 🙂

I used to work in retail many years ago and we used to sell bose stuff. The only people that bought it were old people who couldn't hear anything anyway. They must advertise to the aarp or something.

Bull crap. For someone who is not into acoustics i can see them not realizing why Bose sucks until they have trained their ear in what to look for. But for the rest of us it is easy. I took my Bro in law to Best Buy because he wanted a Bose 5.1 system. I thought it would be hard but when they had the speakers setup and you could switch between the Bose and JBL for half the price, yet same small form factor I was able to get him to notice Bose is lacking in mid range, above 100 Hz is where Bose sucks eggs. Sure the sub puts out but that things is designed for sub 100 Hz and those Bose satellites are not giving you any mid bass.

Unfortunately he still wasted over $100 for monster speaker wire for his $400 JBL speakers.

so how many people do you know that have done this? i don't think i've ever seen one person in life actually say anything like this. but i have seen WAY more people talk shit about bose, just like in this thread, which isn't surprising because this is atot after all.

setup is part of it. it's like saying dslrs help your photos magically become better. if you setup the sound system properly I bet you 95% of people won't be able to tell.

with regards to the photo thing, yeah there are defining features like depth of field, but unless you pixel peep which really isn't photography I can pull off the same images on my S95 as my Canon 7D.
