Hadn't noticed it before. Must be relatively new then. There were quite a few customers inside. It's not far from the Apple store... so the hipsters can shop efficiently.^_^ I thought Bose sold their stuff only through TV/magazine ads and shopping channels.

*dennil plans to never set foot in either*

I don't hate on Bose but damn their marketing has done an excellent job on the regular customers.

The difference between Apple and Bose is Apple's products usually work as advertised. I'm quite happy with my $80 pair of Grado audiophile headphones thank you very much.

I know what you mean, I bought a pair of bose speakers and they ended up emitting no sound but were awesome at microwaving food....

Bose is extremely overpriced junk. $2k for tiny satellite speakers?!?! Come on. But they have great marketing and created an image of luxury.

Bose is like those guys who sell speakers out of the trunk of their car and say they are top tier, except Bose has a huge advertising machine behind it. Bose is THE model for modern American business, pickup shit off the ground, buy ad space in a magazine relevant to the product, pay off the reviewers, sell shit at huge mark-up....make gigantic profits for lying to people.

God that crap is awful.
I remember when I got my 2002 Maxima, it had a BOSE stereo in it. The sub intermittently worked, the right channel intermittently worked, and the CD player skipped something fierce. Thanks to that piece of shit design of everything being amplified nothing could be salvaged. I had to gut the entire system and start fresh just to get something that worked properly. No idea how this company remains in business. I guess deaf people like their stuff.

it's cool to hate on bose.

i'd be pretty surprised if more than 5% of the people hating on bose in this thread has actually hear their expensive speakers. i actually heard them this weekend while in a store demo'ing home theater furniture and they sounded pretty nice. no clue on the price though, but they sounded decent.

the bose system in my g37s also sounds phenomenal.

I like my Bose clock radio. It cost far more than it was worth, but it was a gift, so I'm happy with it.

I used to be a Bose hater, but over time my opinion has changed. I think they sound pretty good - my only gripe is how overpriced they are. My Logitech Z-680/Z-5500 systems were equal competitors for $300 (with better bass, too!); Bose included a DVD player in theirs and charged $2000. So ultimately, it's just a marketing thing. You get tiny cubes, which is cool (and can help with the WAF), but these days you can buy cubes like that for $25 a pop:

Monoprice's system is getting good reviews too - only $85:

They even have a new "Hi-fi" system out for $250:

I stopped at a Bose store in the mall once. It was like talking to Apple fanboy (well, I'm an Apple fanboy, but you know what I mean haha) combined with a military recruiting office or a car dealership working on commission. Lots of pressure to buy. If they did a 5.1 system with a Blu-ray player/receiver and extra inputs for other devices for like $499, I could see that being justified - good sound in a small package. But four times that price...that's a wee bit overpriced ;)

I know a lot of Bose owners, and I'd say probably all of them are very happy with their systems. It's like anything else - marketing. Nothing is worth what you pay for it, it's worth what the market (perception) dictates, which, most of the time, is created by the vendor. A BMW isn't technically worth more than a Kia (metal, fabric, rubber), and yet it costs three times as much. They both get you from point A to point B, but the BMW has a different perception in consumer's eyes, so people pay more. Maybe you get more, maybe you don't. Buyer beware :)

They make OK tiny plastic speakers. The problem is they have not yet found a way to circumvent physics and make those itty bitty cubes move the same amount of air that a set of bookshelf or tower speakers can.

You can get better sounding systems for a lot less money.

Bose is fine. The only thing I find funny is that people that buy them think they are high end systems.
