Savings account with high interest

I'm looking to put some money in a savings type account for about a year; then I would like to buy a house. However the best interest rate I can find is about 3.0%. I am looking for something that is relatively liquid, just incase I find a house I am interested in before hand.

Does anyone have a bank or know of one that has higher money market accounts than 3 percent? Or maybe another type of account I should be looking at.

thanks

I doubt you would get anything better than 3% unless you start looking at saving Deposit certificates.

Am I missing something? It seems to be the same 3.0 my local bank offers.

WTF you did not just call me a liar in my own post!!!! get out of here!!!!!

Now that he is gone My local bank. If this is as good as I can do, then the convenience of it being a mile from my house makes it a done deal.

Thanks Kevin

Well, your bank requires a minimum $10,000 deposit which you might have or not.

But for a lot of other people, $10,000 is more than they have, especially for savings, but that all depends.

What I'm trying to get at is ING direct only requires like $1 minimum opening. I guess that's the main difference between your bank and ING's.

If you have the $10K min, I'd say go for your local bank since it's right there. But ING is definitely very liquidable. 3-5days to deposit/withdraw money.

that's if you're below the $10K deposit.

"3.00% Annual Percentage Yield effective as of May 4, 2005. . . .
Minimum Opening Deposit and Minimum Balance needed to earn stated APY is $10,000. For balances below $10,000, the interest rate and annual percentage yield paid on the daily balance will be the current rate for Regular Savings Account, which is .55% APY. Interest rate may change once account is opened and is subject to change daily thereafter. "

Which is fine for the OP if he already has $10K set aside for the house, but a lousy deal for most everyone else.

Thanks for the input from the most of you.

For the ones that know what they are talking about. I have about 70k that I am wanting to put as a down payment on a new house in about a year. What is the best way to put it to work for that time? Realitive low risk and if I run into the house my wife and I want in six months with little penality.
