Saving info before reformat

Hey...I'm going to build a new system, since my old one is kaput...how do I save files like my email archives, downloaded programs, etc. I will, of course, burn them to disc before I reformat. All my data files are on separate harddrives.

How Kaput is your system? I assume both are desktop systems? If the old drive is still good the simplest method is take the hard drive out of the old system. Then once the new system is up and running install the old hard drive into the new system as a secondary drive and copy the data off it to the new drive. If it's a laptop you could do basically the same thing, but you would need to install the old hard drive in an external usb case. If the old drive is dead you'll probably need to send it out for data recovery.

I just really need to know how to save my past email files as a group instead of having to save them individually and especially my list of email contacts.
