Saving Everquest files?

A co-worker had his computer go up in smoke (motherboard) and asked me to look at it.
He is big into Everquest and would like to save his data.
Now, I have never played Everquest and I would like to know if there are certain files I need to copy off of his hard drive or is his info stored online?

I may end up replacing his motherboard (old Via chipset) with a new nForce2 motherboard, and may have to reformat the hard drive.

Also, being that I have never played this game, does it demand a good graphics card or is it more CPU/System dependent?

Thx!

I think GameSpot has "recommended" specs for it, I know that Sony recommends 512 MB RAM for one of the later expansion packs, not sure how good a 3D card is needed, especially if he is planning to move on to EQ II when it comes out.

No idea whether any files are saved locally, but it is an online game so it could be zero. Support at Sony should say (look up "moving to a new PC") if noone here answers.

Everything about his EQ characters are stored on their game servers. He'll just have to reinstall the game and let it download all the patches again when he tries to connect.

The only files he'd have in the EQ program directory are screenshot .bmp's if he took any, and he could possibly copy out the config files that save your on-screen options. (But he could just reset those up in about 2 minutes after he reinstalls and logs on anyway.)

This is about 1 percent true His character is stored on the server.. however all the files he needs to play are located on his hard drive. I backed up all The EverQuest folders and files to 4 cdrs and just copied everything folders and all back to the hard drive. That is all you have to do. The only time you need to download anything in this case is if the files on the patch servers are newer then the ones you have and they'll auto update those.

He also has the option of reinstalling from scratch.. but installing the program + expansions can take a while and patching from a new install can take a painfully long time.

When I played, I also played on multiple accounts so instead of using EQIM I actually ran 2 separate instances of EQ (had 2 different EQ folders with all files). Made things easier IMO.

You want the INI files! There are also files that save all your hotkeys and GUI setup for all your characters. You also want to save all the screencaptures.

Look for:
1. *.jpeg / *.jpg
2. Any files with his characters names on it
3. Any INI/CFG files
4. Any Log files

EQ is very memory intensive, both video memory and motherboard memory.
