Close results! I'd get the camera. I think I would do more with a camera. You already have a monitor. I think the coolness of a new LCD would wear off after a while, and then you've just got a monitor. Already have that. Get a nice digital camera and your possibilities are endless.

Decided to go with LCD. Thanks.

Will I notice a tremendous difference after upgrading from 15" to 17" LCD?

I certainly did :)

I was working on a programming project last semester where I needed to see a large block of code all at once - I was trying to track down a bug - and the 1024x768 resolution wasn't cutting it. So I decided to get a 17", and started keeping my eyes open for a deal. I would have prefered a 19" so that I could get 1600x1200, but they were too expensive. Still are. 1280x1024 gave me quite a bit more space to play with though; it's good enough for now. Also, this monitor has a much shorter response time (16ms vs. 40ms) than my old 15", which cuts down on ghosting quite a bit. It wasn't that noticeable on the old monitor, but I could still see it; on this screen it's all but disappeared.

Definitely.

Which models are you considering and what is your budget?

I hope that's a good LCD.

You snooze, you lose.

The Dell 1900FP is freakin' awesome, I love mine (paid around $600 a few months ago). It's a rebadged Samsung 191T.

I have that camera, it performs very well for a 2MP point 'n' shoot but I know the feeling of wanting to upgrade to something with more capabilities.

However, you'll get a lot more use out of the LCD, so I think you made the right choice.
