I've successfully upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 and I have a Windows.old folder taking up 40gb of my SSD. Safe to delete or maybe move to my HDD?

EDIT: If a mod can fix my typo in title from "save" to "safe" i'd appreciate it!

Right click on the C: drive icon and then click Properties. Click the Disk Cleanup button let is scan your drive and when it is finished click on Clean up System files. Let it scan again and then scroll through the list. There should be an option to delete the Windows.old folder.

Yes it is safe to delete it unless you plan on rolling back to your previous install. If that is case move it to another drive.

Only if you do not want to revert back to 8.1
If you are not low on space you could leave it there and it will automatically clean up after 30 days

I don't think i'll be rolling back to Win 8.1 but I'm also not running terribly low on space so I'll probably just leave it there until it cleans itself up. Thanks guys.

I deleted it along with the Windows Installation folder, saved around 50GB.

50g are you sure,,,that`s a lot of space....don`t you mean 50 mg

He certainly does not mean 50mb. 50gb close to how much I'd free up also. Not sure how you're going to squeeze install files + your old OS in a 50mb space.

Leave it for now, you have a month to go back to the previous Windows if you decide this isn't for you, I'm still debating myself.

PS- a fresh install of Windows 10 fits on my 40GB SSD, only takes up 17GB.
