Save some money you (prescription) drug junkies!

This is quite amazing - being uninsured and on a limited budget (student loans!) has made me into a bit of a cheap bastard, always looking for the best price on things that I need.

I'm pescribed ritalin and celexa and CVS wanted to charge me $135 for ritalin (generic) and $49.99 for celexa (generic). With a little bit of research I found ritalin for $35 at Walgreens and Celexa for.. get this.. $5 at Costcos! That's a savings of $140 a month! Do you know how much booze I can get with an extra $140???

Seriously folks, do some research. Costco is amazing, most of their generics are $5-$20 without insurance! Amazing to me, really...

Ritalin - attention deficit disorder
Celexa - "depression" - i put the quotes because I don't really have what most people consider depression. I just get very, very nervous and stutter and sweat and spazz out in social situations. I guess it's closer to social anxiety disorder but, whatever it is, celexa works for me. Other things haven't.

You answered your own question - i freak out, over analyze things, over react to things, yada yada yada.

I don't have the physiological (sp?) issues anymore, but i still think the same thoughts.

You don't need to go to Costco [though they generally have low Rx prices].

Generic Celexa [citalopram] is $4/month at Target and Walmart.

Target's $4 generic rx list in pdf format

Walmart's $4 generic list in pdf format

You may also want to call the pharmacies located in local supermarkets, many of them are matching Walmart's & Target's prices or beating them. One New England chain is now offering a 90 day supply for only $10.99 of over 200 generics Rx drugs.

Wow, GREAT to know! Thanks! Anyone else have any good pointers? If only I could find a good price for ritalin (Methylphenidate).

You all dont seem to realize that the drugs that are $4 have been around FOREVER. They dont cover a lot of things made in the last 20 years.

The point is that pharmacies like CVS, Walgreens, Brooks, etc are still charging insane higher prices for these meds. Just because a drug has been on the market for 40 years doesn't mean that they aren't safe & effective. Some stores have been making craploads of profit on these generics, and folks were overpaying because they had no choice. Now they do have a choice.

Yes, newer drugs cost more than $4, and many are worth it. But why overpay when you don't have to?

you usually get raped because it is a c2 med....i am on a couple c2 meds and without insurance i couldn't afford them, period.

as for your celexa, did you ever try xanax or valium? if you don't mind me asking, does celexa give you sexual side effects? not joking, i have been on decent doses of xanax for ~6yrs due to ocd, different anxieties, social issues. all of the "anti-depressants" just gave me sexual side effects and other medical issues but never fixed the problems.

again, i am asking seriously as i have numerous issues, some of which you share

Hey,
Don't laugh at me for being completely honest! I've been on stratera and lexapro. A part of me thinks that my last long term girl friend dumped me because of stratera. I was never in the mood, always tired, and couldn't get it up. It would be really sad, actually - she'd try to "spice things up" but nothing could get over the side effects. Even peeing was hard - or not! Hah..I was also really grumpy and snippy, probably because I was never getting laid (or even able to).

Lexapro worked wonders and, after I lost my job, my doctor switched me to celexa since it's nearly the same drug but much cheaper. Lexapro/Celexa gave me very strange dreams and also made me gain weight, but I feel much more positive and do not close up when in a social setting anymore. It's still not easy - brain chemistry only goes so far, but i don't do my usual physical reactions. Everything left lingering is purely emotional, which i'm learning to deal with.

i am not laughing at all, that is why i am asking. i has similiar issues with lexapro, but it left me with anorgasmia...talk about some not so fun times - desire was still there but couldn't "finish", glad that went away after i was taken off it but in the mean time it lead to prostatitus 🙁

good to hear it has helped in other situations and good luck in the future
