Is there any way for me to drop an excel file onto my home screen on my iphone for easy access.. right now I have to dig thru my email to find a select couple of documents I need regularly.

I'm jailbroken on 1.1.3 firmware if that helps any.

Thanks

I don't believe there's any way to do it from the home screen. If you don't mind using MobileFinder, there are a couple different apps listed in the Installer repository that enable most of what you want by running a HTTP daemon that Safari connects to, which in turn induces Safari to open those files with the native viewing application.

hmm interesting... httpd on the iphone itself, then use something like http://127.0.0.1/file.xls? and bookmark that to my homepage.. is that sort of what you mean?
--altho if this is the case I'd probably rather just load the files up on a http server elsewhere and save battery life by not running an httpd

or perhaps I can use WinSCP I suppose to transfer the file to the directory that my home page uses to pull icons/shortcuts from and see if I can just open it from there using Safari.. what I need to find out now is where that directory is :) any ideas?

I really don't know a lot about how it works Gizmo, you're just going to have to browse the Installer and look at what's there. I believe the app you're looking for is called WildEyes.

Right on.. pretty cool little app thanks for pointing that out to me.

The way I ended up doing it (for ease as I'm sure theres a slightly more difficult "offline" way).. is that I just sent the documents to my gmail and from there opened it using "google docs" which I copied the url from and opened on my iPhone and saved as an icon on my homepage. So yes, it requires internet, but its the easiest way to get an excel document (shortcut) onto my homepage.

I heard of some other ways to do it thru iPhoto but I didn't try b/c I wanted it directly on my homepage and not thru my pictures folder.
