Nate,

If I lived anywhere near you, I'd do something about it. I love German Shepherds, and it's really hard to see one get put to sleep. :(

Unfortunately, I'm in Washington. Good luck to you. :(

Do you have any friends who will take him until he can be found a permanent home??
How about no kill shelters in your area??
Try talking rationally and reasonably to your parents. Don't get angry or excited, you may be able to come to a solution everybody can live with.

I wish I could help more, but I can't take him. :(

Here's a bump for you.

<edit>

try here for a no kill shelter in your area.

At least there your dog has a chance of finding a good home.

Also try advertising in the newspaper.

I know a Korean family that would love to have him, maybe even have him over for dinner. :)

(Seriously, I'll check around and see what I can do down in my area)

You may also wish to edit your topic to bring more attention to it. Something along the lines of help save my dog.

If I didnt live in a college dorm, I would take him in a second.
BTW, you got a picture of him?
That would make it a little more personal and may increase your chances of finding him a home :)

good luck

I assume you live in a dorm or apartment, so he can't stay with you. On the surface, it sounds like this was some kind of snap decision on your parents part. However, are we to believe there was no prior discussion between you and your parents concerning the dog? It sounds like they've just finally put their foot down.

You say he's your dog, so you are responsible for him. Take your folks seriously and ask them to hold off a couple of weeks to give you some time to relocate him. Then get crackin'. Place an ad in the paper. Contact the shelters and humane society. Look in the phone book for breeders. There's plenty of better resources out there to find a new home for your dog than making a plea on an internet discussion forum.

Good luck.

Nate,

I feel for you as I grew up (a long time ago) with a German Shepherd. And, I think your parents are way off base.

But, what exactly do Koreans have to do with it? Is it necessary to slam a race of people with a stupid stereotype in order to try and save your pet?

Russ, I agree that slamming a people is unnecessary, but I don't think that's how nate meant it to sound.

Monel Funkawitz made a joke about it and I suggested that he make his topic more noticeable. Although that's not particularly what I had in mind, I don't think Nate meant any offense by it.

Nate: you may want to change the topic again.

Man, I feel for you. I have a german shepherd at home who I am very attached to. If I wasn't living in a dorm here in Chicago, I would find a way to drive up there to Michigan and take him! That's so sad. Someone help out the poor guy. :(

If you can't find a home for him immediately I'd agree with the above advice to try and get him to a no-kill sheleter, or if you parents can hang on a bit get him listed with that breed's rescue league (I think all the pure-breds have their own group). Good luck in placing him :)

Hope it works out with your pup. Maybe you should advertise your location - you may get more inquiries that way. In the meantime you can try to delay your parents a few days while you find a new place for him.

About eating dog, yes it is stupid to stereotype anyone. But, it is quite true that some cultures eat dog. Fairly common in China actually. Dunno about Koreans though. Different strokes for different folks. Some Jews think pork is disgusting, and some Indians find it terrible that humans eat beef. Insects are quite popular in some cultures too. My friend (Ukranian) has eaten scorpions in China. I'd personally try just about anything once.

need 100 more dogs to make a fur coat j/k :p i really hope it doesn't end this way. btw, i have never seen anyone eat dogs in the philippines over a span of 10 years in luzon, the main island. but it might or might not be happening in the southern islands since i was only there for several weeks. the thing is, don't simply rely on stereotypes. can't say much about china since i've only been in hong kong but there are numerous hilarious comic strips about dog-eating and the police. (i.e. lao fu tzu comics)
