Stone has made a couple decent movies, but the lion's share of his work is awful.

This.

Platoon is...OK.

the rest is utter drivel.

well, I kinda take that back--The Doors was pretty good. It was certainly well-cast. Born on the 4th wasn't bad, but it's perhaps the best representation of why Stone's work is mostly garbage--his rather loose grasp on history presented as indisputable fact (well, JFK is probably the worst offender)

If you can accept the fact that what he's feeding you is mostly BS and annoy Stone's assertions that his lens represents rote truth, then much of his work can stand on its own. The problem, though, is that he very much likes to color his work as non-fiction.

...and then there are flicks like Any Given Sunday that make you wonder how he ever got a contract for directing.

JFK was a well done movie. As far as anyone taking any Hollywood director's two hour take on history as historical fact, well, that's on you. If you do, then you probably think Charlton Heston is God, or worse, that George Burns is! :p

Sounds promising. I actually think the last Wall Street movie would have moved from 'meh' to 'fairly good' if simply Shia LeBarf was replaced by someone like Gosling or .. virtually anyone.

Obligatory "Oliver Stone should be banned from ATOT for blatantly racist movie title" post.

I think "South of the Border" is probably the worst offender, but then again, not many people actually saw it :).
