I hope it fails, comes crashing down and wipes out 90% of their population.
Then mabey we can move in and get some oil!

So terribly... practical.

wow this would be awesome if hey succeed.. Who cares if it is a waste of money...It's a waste of money to go to mars in my opinion, but it's still a tremendous achievement.

I'm all for oil princes wasting their money though. When the black gold runs out they'll have nothing to show for it.
Since when is investing in real estate 'wasting money'?

People are building skyscrapers on all corners of the Earth. They just build them a little bigger in the Middle East.

$5bn on a mile high tower is wasting money. $500 million on a 787 dreamliner is wasting money. You are daft if you think that they dont waste money constantly.

787 is actually about $150MM and aircraft are a great investment right now

the point is kinda moot.

the world's elite have already snatched up all of the first palm and the world. several more projects are nearing completion, so get your's now while you can!

Just pointing out that the figure was inaccurate and not everything they do is pissing money away, some good investments are made. The thing to remember is alot of these royals have tons and tons of cash and no where to park it. Real estate ventures and aviation provide some decent investment opportunities (even if this tower does sound kinda far fetched).

Hahahaa... that's just stupid and a waste of money. Someone's going to have some fun designing that thing so it doesn't snap like a twig or buckle.

Where did you say you got your structural engineering degree at?

I think he's trying to make up for disadvantages in the endowment department. He looks like he's a small and short guy, who's feeling a bit inadequate among the harems, if you know what I mean, and I think you do...

You tell that to google.

So how many people think this tower story and april fools day are just a coincidence?

That was my first thought, but either 7/8 of the posters here are really good at playing along with a joke, or we may just be surrounded by idiots

Edit: then again I've found it in two other places, both posted well before yesterday

http://www.forbes.com/2008/02/...x_af_0225alwaleed.html

http://www.arabnews.com/?page=...107779&d=13&m=3&y=2008

This is just unreal 😕

I guess I didn't think of that cause it was posted yesterday, though it is a UK site which is what, EST + 5 hours? But the article says it was last updated a bit after noon on the 31st.
