Want to install a satellite dish at your home but can't due to a building regulation or uncooperative landlord? Hiding an in-built dish and LNB, the SatPlus Sat Chair will let you pull in those satellite signals and the landlord will be none the wiser. The chair can be installed on a terrace, balcony or anywhere else you want to install a satellite dish without breaking any rules - although it might look out of place on the roof.

SatPlus says the 5 kg (11 lb) chair acts as the equivalent of a 60 cm (23.6 in) dish and can be installed on uneven ground as the feet of the chair are also adjustable. The chair is geared specifically towards those who live in apartment buildings where residents are not allowed to install their own dish, or renters whose landlords won't give the green light for installing one. Just don't sit on it when someone wants to watch TV.

Probably doesn't work as well. No parabola reflector or collector? Looks like a directional antenna to me.

"why is this chair on the roof?"

"um, I'm working on my tan, I swear!"

If you can put it in your porch and get signal no place will care with a dish. They don't like them because they're often outside of the place you're renting like a common grass area with a pole or mounted to a exterior wall or roof. In those cases a chair sitting in the same spot would likely be just as unwelcome IMO.

...but building regs wont allow...
Is that even legal?

yes.

If you're not authorized to mount the dish on the roof or the side of the building, try your patio or balcony. Just make sure you have a clear view of the southern sky.

Your system installation may require structural modifications that may be limited or restricted by the terms of your lease, rental agreement, or covenants, conditions and restrictions (CC&Rs).

my lease doesn't allow us to mount anything on the exterior of the building... so we're left with TriPod mounts on the balcony.

The military erects fiberglass shells over their satellite dishes to conceal them. Why couldn't they design a cover for a portable dish that you could put on your deck that look like a beach ball or dog house?

I am in an apartment complex now where you cannot put up a sat dish if you are on the ground floor or north side.

Only people on the south side and on 2nd and 3rd floors can have sat dishes.

That's mainly a technical problem - no a planning one. Satellite dishes won't work on the North side (they need to directed to point South), or reliably at ground level (as the line-of-sight to the satellite is likely to be impinged upon by adjacent buildings, or frequently obscured by passing traffic).

I've seen apartments with dishes screwed up to the roof above units. I've also seen apartments with dishes on stands on the balcony.

Also don't the main suppliers of it here, dish & directv , have you use their own dishes so doubt this would work that well.
